How to remove dead pedal? Just pull?

Didn't think I'd have to post about this but after a while I'm honestly a little stumped and wondering if there's just some trick about removing the dead pedal?? I was yanking on it and I'm damn near snapping the thing in half by yanking so hard. I just want to get that plastic cover off so I can install a switch down there, and didn't think I'd run into trouble getting it off!

Anyone done it, or even on previous BMWs (looks like the footwell area / pedals are same for E46s as well)?

TIA.

Don't just pull, the tab that hold the pedal in will snap off the pedal. Oops.

If you're putting in a replacement, i think you put the new dead pedal on top of the existing dead pedal. I don't know of anyone who simply remove the dead pedal.. could try searching.

Searched, found nothing.

I am not putting in a dead pedal. I was trying to remove the dead pedal to install a remote V1 mute foot switch. Regardless, ditched that idea since it was a little too difficult to remove and have it located on my shift boot now.

I had to break my stock one to install the M dead pedal. I tried to be gentle at first but it didn't work out. All of the plastic pins that hold the stock pedal broke one by one (I think there are 4 total) and they're still somewhere in there. Good luck!

Search for m footrest install or something like that. It's somewhere around here becuase I used it when I put in my M dead pedal. You have to start pulling up from the bottom ...gently. The top of it kind of "hooks" in.

It probably helps if you remove the under-dash trim first; it's just a handful (maybe 4?) T20-ish screws. If you have to apply force you missed one

It seems like that would be overkill since as soon as the old one swings up, it's very easily "unhooked". I guess we all have our own way of doing things though so this may be a good tip for a lot of people.
