E92 335i Auto manual shifting issue?
OK, so when up shifting after high rpm's (around 6k or so) I'll let off the gas and shift to the next gear to resume normal driving well this causes the transmission to instantly drop down to around 3k (Which obviously isn't very fun) then shifts. My questions is am I doing something wrong? With these transmission is letting off the throttle and shifting a no no? Or do I possibly have an expensive issue to fix? It should be noted that both standard and sports driving modes operate great and if I just keep on the throttle until after I've shifted in manual mode the car shifts smoothly. Thanks in advanced everyone!

it's automatic gearbox, not smg... hell, even smg you should keep your foot on the accelerator during shifts
maybe you should have bought a 6MT?

Yea, don't ever take your foot off the gas when shifting at high RPM's and want to keep accelerating. The auto's have a few advantages over the 6mt , one being the ATs don't release their accelerator when shifting, and therefore don't "blow of" (or divert) their boost, it stays high and uses the torque converter to mesh things out before re-applying the clutch, all in a matter of about 1 second. Manual Trans guys have to blow off all their boost they've built and "restart" building boost after shifting gears, of course it's minimal because the turbos are already spooling, but still having to build boost back up where AT does not.
Of course you're not really hurting the car or anything by releasing the gas, but it sure is uncomfortable that way and not recommended according to the User manual. |
