Ok, that did not work. I'm open to any other suggestions. I tried with the door open to push down the lock, no go, did not work. Tried to lock it with the acutal hidden key, once again, no go. Anyone else have any ideas?

I am not an expert, but for shipping, you are concern that the ultrasonic might go off, then I would just remove the ultrasonic unit located in the center dome light. Everything should not go off while the car is in transport mode.
just a wild guess. Also if you have idrive, can you not turn it off from idrive? I don't have idrive so i am clueless on the idrive brainstorming suggestion.

Ok, there is not an option in the I-drive system to turn off the alarm. If I take out the ultrasonic, will this require me to reset the computer once I get the car back?

Better not take out the ultrasonic then unless you are sure you do not mess up the programming. I just thought of something. As I was thinking, when transporting the car, my only concenr would be the ultrasonic unit. What if you tape up the slots/vent on the ultrasonic, would that prevent the alarm from going off during transport? I don't really know but an alarm expert might know.

I remember seeing another thread about the same topic... about a year ago.
Might want to go to the DIY section or here and do a search. I can't remember if a solution was found.

The manual says that the driver door cannot be locked when it is open, to prevent accidental lockouts. But what if you got in the car from the passenger side to lock the driver door, then locked the passenger door while exiting. Then all doors would be locked, right?
Or, what if you use the metal key to lock the driver's door? Does this arm the alarm too?

If you lock the doors with they metal key the alarm will still be armed.
If you want to disable the ultrasonic off, lock the car with the remote and press the lock button for a second time and hold for a few seconds until you see a confirmation as the clown nose rapidly blinks a couple times. This means the ultrasonic is off and the alarm is in passive mode. I don't know if you can completely disable the alarm, but why would you do that? |

If you just want to disable the motion and tilt sensors, it's in the manual.
Press the lock button a second time within a few seconds of locking the car, sensors are disabled |

Not sure if I have to disconnect the battery or not. I don't believe they do. I simply take it to the drop off point and they take care of the rest. I only make sure it is empty and clean. As for disabling the motion and tilt sensor, I did find that in the manual, but I truly don't see the shipping personnel knowing anything about that, and it's not like I have the ability to talk to each and every person that will touch the car.

Stop by a BMW dealership if you have a chance. I know here in the US, all new cars come with a Battery Disconnect switch, which while in transit, the person in the drivers seat can turn on/off the entire electrical system.
If they have the same in germany, they will definately know what your talking about and give/sell you one. BTW, for everyone else reading this from the US: the switch is removed from the vehicle prior to delivery. |
