Items needed to retrofit non-DCT to DCT wheel/module/paddles
This thread can probably serve as a guide of what you need to retrofit to having a functioning DCT steering wheel with paddles.
My car is an '07 328i base model, non-sport everything. No sport seats, no power seats, no navi, non-sport steering and triangular non-sport air bag. I switched to having a 6-speed M-tech perforated steering wheel with M trim and sport airbag about 2-3 years ago. This weekend, we switched out my M3 wheel with DCT module and Pedal Haus paddle shifters, OEM alcantara M trim and wrapped alcantara steering wheel with tri color M stitching plus red stripe by cobywheel.com What I did not know was that I still needed to upgrade my multi-function buttons because my '07 non-sport wheel does not have the 3 electrical contacts needed for the DCT modules to function and I bought on the forum for $50 shipped, lucky me. What I also did not think I needed was the wiring harness for the paddles to actually work with the shifter since I thought the DCT modules are getting power so I should be done. Wrong. So I purchased this harness here http://www.burgertuning.com/paddleshift.html Lucky for me, someone was selling a brand new extra one for a little less. EDIT 5/10/16 Happy to say that everything works OEM. No lag/delay of the paddles to gear change. IMO the only downside is, if you want to stay on manual, the shifter has to stay on DS. If you use the paddles but leave the shifter on D, after less than 20 feet and a few seconds, manual will go back to D automatically. So looking at my pictures, you will see what to look for and add money to your money pit. Pictures 1-4, I have 2 pairs for DCT modules, one from 2009 and 2010. I installed the 2010 module but it shouldn't matter which one you install. The 2009 module with M3 paddles is for sale by the way. Pictures 5-6 is the upgraded multi-function buttons with the 3 electrical contacts. Picture 8 is my original buttons without the contacts. Last picture is the product. I am also selling my 6 speed M-tech perforated steering wheel with M-trim here http://www.e90post.com/forums/showth...9#post19778679 And extra sport steering wheel with paddle cutouts here http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1227187 Enjoy. FYI, when you use the paddles without moving the shifter to DS, it will ALWAYS revert back to Auto after a few seconds. That's what it does from the factory, so your module is definitely working exactly as it should.
