Bridgestone Potenza RE960AS Pole Poistion vs. Pirelli Pzero Nero M&S
I'm ditching the run flats and getting the M6 replicas, but am stuck on which tire to pair with the rims. I did my research and came to two conflicting sets of data on tirerack.
The Bridgestone's get killer survey results here: http://www.tirerack.com/tires/survey...jsp?type=UHPAS The Pirelli's outperform the Bridgestone's in Tirerack Tire Test here: http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tests/...ay.jsp?ttid=87 Further complicating the matter is that the Pirelli's would save me about $60 for a set, but the Bridgestone's come with a 40k warranty. My car is a 2008 328xi, and I'll be driving in the northeast / midatlantic regions with 18in wheels, none staggered setup. Your expert opinions are appreciated.

I got a set of Yokohama advan s.4 10 days ago. So far, I like them. Will post a more detailed review later. That's another good candidate.

Check out the Goodyear Eagle F1 all seasons. They are about the same price as the potenza 960's and in a comparo test were better in the dry and wet than both the potenza 960's and the Pirelli PZero Nero M&S.

yes, those are in the 2nd link i provided. the goodyears were good, but not as good as the Pirellis'. If you have other information, please post, I would love to read it.

jkurgan,
I am deciding between the same tires as you. I am probably going to get the Goodyear F1 A/S. My decision was based on the same Tire Rack test in your 2nd link. The Goodyears were better in every objective test(braking distance, cornering, slolom, lap time) in both the wet and the dry. The difference in the dry was close but it was significantly better in the wet. The comments by both the Tire Rack testers and the personal reviews tend to concur with this. Subjectively, it seems like the Pirelli has a little better feel and is more geared towards the dry. I am in NJ and will be using my car year round. The Goodyears should do much better in the snow and the rain than the Pirelli's. |

thanks for the replies. i think i ruled out the Pirelli's but reconsidering the Goodyears now. I wish there was survey data on tirerack for those tires.

I have the Bridgestones, 2k miles, quite. They actually were my only 19" A/S option since I got the sport package with summer tires ( and I'm in NY ) and upgraded to 275 30 19 and 235 35 19 tires on 19" wheels right after I got the car...

^ I have 275s in the back and 245s in the front of my M3 in the BS tires. They aren't the grippiest tire, but that works great for doing small drifts in low speed corners... haha

Curious as to why you think so... the Pirelli's get great reviews everywhere I look.

I have run the RE960AS on my Legacy GT for about a year. They are amazing tires. I would say they are more oriented towards summer then winter however. I did a Subaru Challenge on them (Auto-X) and they performed amazingly well. I would say they are really close to the performance of a low end summer only tire which is pretty amazing. They also perform well in the rain with no surprises, very predictable break away. In my mind their is no better AS tire out right now.
