IATs w/ FMIC

Hey everyone,

I recently installed a ER FMIC and i was expecting my IATs to be a bit lower. While the temps dont really move up much at all while under WOT they still do hover a good 30 degrees or so higher than ambient which surprised me.

For example, it was about 80 degrees out today and my IATs were around 108 just cruising down the highway.

Is this typical?

thanks

Subb' - looking forward to hearing people's answers. I'm looking into either getting a FMIC or meth. Meth is much more effective from what I have read.

Do you have DCIs? Do your IATs go down once you give it some boost (not WOT).

On normal driving. without stop and go traffic that causes heat soak, the difference between your IAT and ambient temps should be about 20°f

The ER FMIC suppresses heat very well, better than most FMIC out there. Do a 3rd gear log from 2500 RM - 6000 RPM and post it. If you on MHD the default MHD parameters is fine.

I haven't watched mine closely since last summer when I would see +10 to + 15 on highway and +15 or a bit more in stop and go..

My 1/4 mile logs show temps up to 140 after successive runs and waiting in line in between.

If the car is idle temp will rise .. When cruising on a highway it should be closer to 20

Slow cruising and idling temps are pretty moot. It's wide open throttle that is really the only concern.

Did you compare the same scenario to stock? I bet you'd see the stock FMIC performing worse.

ER is one of the best FMIC available but she needs some air to breathe (or should I say pull heat out). Put the loud pedal down if you want to log.

There was a pretty large change for me when logging before and after fmic install. My logs for successive 3rd and 3-4th gear pulls showed AIT almost always under 115 in the summer, but with stock, 140 was hit easily... Only at a drag strip have seen that with my 5" ETS. If I tracked routinely, I would certainly step up to 7", however, because I understand at those higher AITs, my tune is pulling timing and power with it. Again, for a car that is 99.9% street use, I'm good..

Doesn't matter how big you go they still get hot. I'm having trouble with ad intercooler getting too hot and staying hot.
