Plastidip is good and holds really well, what I've found is if you spray it thick it turns out with a texture of something like sand but smooth and rubbery, spraying it thin made it look slick, might of been the surface but it can't hurt spraying thin. I reckon you should mask some up, although it is removable.

If you're taking the trim off the car, you may as well sand it down and paint it properly. A panel shop shouldn't charge more than 200 bucks for a permanent solution. Plastidip will look ratty after a while, but it won't peel off as those are low to zero contact areas

Give it a go. Only cost you $30 for can of plastidip and masking tape. If you don't like it peel it right off. One tip. If you want sharp clean edges, remove the masking tape while the plastidip is still wet

If anything is worth doing, it's worth doing properly. You'll be far more pleased with a nice gloss paint job than a matt plastidip. The effort will be totally worth it! Just doing my part to try to convince you into the better alternative haha

There are quite a few. Are you e90 or e92? To start off, buy yourself a cheapo trim removal kit off eBay. Socket what was the one you got for 10 bucks or less?

Dont remove the trim to DIY, apparently its really difficult to remove and you can bend/damage the trim.

I had my window trims painted black by a mate for $150, he just masked up the windows body etc and it came out really good

OP investigate a professional spray job, its such a small amount of paint you might be able to get it done cheaply by a pro.

Offer to mask it up yourself to save them time if you want to make it cheaper.

Surely it could be done cheaper than $400 and it would the best without buying OEM shadowline trim.
