Well, I have 2 SES Codes, Please give suggestions

Well, I have not owned my car for long and the SES has illuminated. I have the following codes:P0675 and P0112. The first one is for #5 glow plug open circuit and the second one is for "Intake Air Temperature Circuit Low."

How should I go about trouble shooting the two codes? I don't believe in taking any of my vehicles to the shop unless I'm absolutely out of solutions.

Thanks in advance!

With my limited experience I would say to pull the Intake air temp sensor and get all the carbon crud off of it first. Now that probably won't help an open circuit on your #5 glow plug but a new glow plug probably will help that. You might have to take the intake manifold off to get to that. Good time for carbon clean up, then when you get the glow plug out of the head you can ground out the body of the glow plug and power it up.. It should start 'glowing' haha. In this case it probably won't start glowing and you can put a new glow plug back in that hole. If cleaning the intake temp sensor doesn't work then you might want to try a new one, but seeing how glow plugs are controlled by our engines temperatures, gonna say chase the temp sensor problem first.

I'd see if you can get the BMW codes instead of looking at the generic OBDII P codes.

My understanding is that the P0675 is less likely the glow-plug and more likely the glow-plug controller. I've thrown that code and P0671 (same code but for cylider 1). Glow plug controller can be purchased on ebay for around $75 USD with shipping and replaced without taking off the intake manifold. I'm still waiting on mine to arrive from Poland.

As for your air sensor issue, I don't know about that. CBU is a likely culprit though.

Thanks everyone. I ordered a special obd scanner that uses PA soft software. It will take a few weeks to get here but it should help me diagnose things easier.

The car runs great so hopefully its not CBU. We will see.

Not sure if you're experiencing the same codes, but I recently was throwing the P0675. So, I ordered a new glow plug. This past weekend I pulled the intake and removed the glow plug. The tip had quite a bit of buildup on it. So I tested the resistance which showed 1.2 ohms. My understanding is that spec calls for less than 1 ohm. The new glow plug tested at .3 ohms.

So, I installed the new one and have been code free for 500 miles. It was being thrown each cold start. So, I wouldn't necessarily replace the controller.

Note: I cleaned the tip of the old glow plug, and the resistance dropped to .7 ohms.

Good information,

I've got the P0112 fault code and have been trying to deal with that one for a few days now

Sorry guys, I still have not sorted the issues out yet. The car runs great and I have put about 7k miles on it since the post. The scan tool i ordered did not work, so I had to order another one. I still have not set it up with my lap top. I will keep everyone updated.
