What's a better upgrade
I have an 08 e92 and I am looking to get get rid of my CCC Idrive. It's too old and slow for me and it always has issues starting up whenever I start my car. So i plan on saving up and making an upgrade. My question is what is the more worthwhile upgrade, CIC+combox or NBT? I like both systems and I'm torn between getting the latest and greatest hardware vs just upgrading to get some certain features I want (Bluetooth Streaming/ BMW Apps). I tried to look at other threads but the majority was just CCC to CIC or CIC to NBT. So what would you guys recommend. What's the best route to go?

I did NBT. I don't regret it, but it's maybe about 95% functional since it's not intended for the E-series cars.
There's some things that are not working on NBT or that I miss from CCC. I DIY'd instead of buying a complete coded retrofit kit, so some of these might be able to be fixed with coding, but I haven't had time to poke around the options yet. -speed volume control not working -certain KOMBI messages are not displayed as a popup message on iDrive like it was on CCC, such as fuel reserve, +37*F temperature warning, lighting errors, etc. I just get the symbol in the KOMBI with no description on the iDrive of what it is. -no automatic arrow display popup in the split screen window as you approach a turn even if you're not on the arrow display screen -no real time traffic info (bimmer retrofit seems to be working on a solution for that for those using their adapter) -different FM antenna setup required for best reception. I get OK reception, but way more cut outs and static than I did with CCC But that aside, the BT streaming, BMW apps (Pandora, spotify, iheartradio, etc), USB integration, album art display, voice commands, touchpad controller all work great and it's worlds better than CCC. I got a US NBT so I get HD Radio (works great) and SiriusXM (don't subscribe, but preview channel works). CIC+Combox and NBT should provide similar multimedia capabilities. NBT has more better/newer looking graphics and is a bit faster, but at the end of the day CIC+Combox may be more 100% functional than NBT.

Currently NBT is cheaper on Ebay than CIC if purchased from Europe.
VTECaddict I think some of the issue you mention might relate to which Emulator or Retrofit harness you use. Which one did you use? |

Bimmer Retrofit eNBT adapter. I'm guessing I just need to change some FDL coding options.

With use of regular CCC or CIC FM antenna it will not be perfect as NBT requires dual FM antenna for some specific reasons. Quote:
