Has any one taken the BMW performance driving classes?

Hey dudes and dudets,
I was just checking out the BMW website (I was bored) and I saw the link to their performance driving classes. I got interested since I've never gone to a track with any car, except GoKarting, so I'd like to learn the proper way of track driving and also the cool tricks such as the proper way of drifting, handbreak U-turn, and all of that stuff. I guess I should mention that their cars, according to the website, consist of E46 M3's and E90 330i's available both in auto and manual. They should be fun. Has any one taken any of these courses? I'd like some reviews from these classes and also to know whether they are worth the big bucks that they charge?

Never tracked? Start with the BMW Car Control Clinic...I think the Club is making it a requirement prior to driving school. (Prereq.)....but may be different in Canada. There won't be any "stunt" driving either. The CCC is a great value for a full day's worth of hands on instruction. $100 USD.

I haven't tried BMW NA's driving school, but can highly recommend the BMW club events (put on by the local chapters). I recently did the 2 day HPDE at Fontana and it was very well organized, had excellent instructors, and a real variety of cars (surprising number of Porches). My guess would be that the level of instruction matches that of the BMW NA schools at less than half the cost. This is due in large part to the fact that you use your car, not a school car. I see this as an advantage since I want to experience MY car at the limits, not one that's kinda like mine. Either way, you can't really go wrong. There's not many experiences that are more fun than a well-run track event.

I would agree with N54Fun. Athough, it is fun to beat the $hit out of someone else's car.

Overdrive, I've heard fantastic things about the BMW Driver Training. I plan to enroll in Advanced II this summer and possibly Perfection. The courses aren't cheap but apparently excellent. I might try to go all the way to Fascination II.

Overdrive, how did you learn what vessel your vehicle was on? My car is "in transit" and its vin doesn't show up on the WW website. Have no idea when it will arrive. Any clues?

well i tried the WW website almost everyday after i found out that my car was in transit. and i think it was about a week and a half after that the vin finally worked and i found the vessel name. just ask ur dealer and ask him when ur car was done production and he will tell u, other wise go to bmw.ca and send them an email through their website and ask them for the production date. it should at most take 2 weeks after the production date for the car to set sail on the vessel. if you have anymore questions, don't hesitate to ask. and what are the specs for your 335xi?

The E92 that I've ordered is 'in transit'. It's just not showing up on the WW website yet. Perhaps, I'll have to give it more time.

My vehicle specs are 335i, space grey on saddle leather, grey poplar trim, step/paddles (a necessary evil), sport, premium pckg, premium sound, PDC, CA, bluetooth, and 19" 230s. I'm still wondering whether I've made the right decision with the 19" being in Mississauga myself. Could be ok? Just love the way they look.

BTW, you should definitely post pics of your saddle interior...

Your car should look sick!. And there is nothing wrong with the 19's. I would have gotten them if they were available for the xi models. Are you planning on doing any mods?

I've already posted pics:

the pics are on the first page. Enjoy!

Looking forward to it.

First things first. Will have Ventureshield clear bra installed. Then 35% tints. In terms of mods, I have in my basement the illuminated door sills (these are awesome, my wife has them on her E90 335xi) and the split armrest. Also will order the rear fog switch. No need for blacklines as we did for my wife's car. Final item will be the Msport steering wheel with paddles. Already did wifey's steering swap with the M3 wheel and it is SWEEEEEEEEEEET.

Now I've been thinking about other mods such as front aero lip and Dinan flash. BUT, I am giving serious consideration to purchasing a 2009 135 convertible (with Msport package and manual, no step) next year. So may save my $$$ for this vehicle. A Dinan flash on this car is probably the route I will go.
