ran into a happy 335d owner

Just by chance last night, I parked beside my twin - base model 335d BSM/beige interior. Excepting for my upgraded wheels, the cars were identical. After shopping a bit, I walked out and the other D was still there. I thought it would have been cool to chat with the owner, but oh well.

Then just as I started up the car, I saw the lights flash as he unlocked his car. I rolled down my window to say hello, but before I could say anything he asked me if my car was a diesel (he had heard it crank). So I pulled back into the parking spot and we chatted.

His story:
He bought the 2011 335d a few years back off of a lease. Car came with the CPO warranty (6/100K). He currently has 140 K miles on the odometer.
He had test driven a M-sport but preferred the ride quality of the standard suspension.

Like most of us, he loves the power, the fuel efficiency, the handling and the refinement of the car. In his words, the car is a total package.

We talked about reliability: He had the DEF tank replaced under warranty for a faulty sensor. He also had the harmonic balancer pulley replaced at just over 100K miles. Other than those two instances, he said the car has been great. No CBU issues that he has noticed.
He stated that he averages about 31 to 32 mpg on highway driving, but that he drives aggressively (85+ mph). He said he could get 35 mpg if he slowed down a bit.

It was nice to talk with another D owner. And it was refreshing to hear good things said about the car that I love.

I almost never see another 335d around and I travel over 300 miles per week. Last week I had a business trip and walking from the parking deck at MDT to the terminal, I passed my twin, another Space Grey sport pack 335d that looked well cared for....then to my surprise, I passed an alpine white 335d closer to the elevator.

I never see them, then in one parking deck there are three.

Around Los Angeles areas (West LA and San Fernando Valley)
I see lots of 335d (535d and X5d as well), in my work parking lot alone I see 2 of them, but have not had a pleasure of talking to the owners yet.

Recently, on the freeway I see several 328d Wagons as well.. very nice looking cars

I see plenty of 335d's in the Vancouver BC Area. Unfortunately I'm typically on the Highway when I see them so no possibility for small talk. I do however see lot's of X5 35d's (or whatever they're called) but most owners that I run it to wether at the gym, grocery store etc. Don't seem to be enthusiasts or frankly have no knowledge or their cars. Some I could guess don't even know it's diesel. Shame really; I love my 2009 335d. Truthfully I find more comroderey from 335i owners and since my brother has a 2011 E90 335is I can at least talk the talk as I know a decent amount about both platforms

I think that in Vancouver majority of X5 and ML350 are diesel. I do not see that many 335d, less even 535d. Some 328d here and there, but X5d are everywhere.
