330i - 335i-v1.47-stock -initial v2 impressions
Previous cars - 94 RX-7 , 02 wrx, both with bolt on mods. Auto x'ed a lot in both.
Almost bought a EVO IX, but a baby in the future forced me into the SUV market. I sort of inherited a 330i with zhp from my wife. Drove it for 2 1/2 years. auto x'ed it twice. Nice car, handled well, I really liked the BMW "feel" of it, but it was underpowered and it would not respond well to mods. I left it stock. Lease was up a couple of months ago. I had been following the 335 for some time, reading articles, etc. I had been reading what shiv had been up to, tuning it with very nice results. Went to the dealer for a test drive of a 335i sedan. 1st test in step - wow - I was really surprised at the power difference from the 330i zhp. It felt just right. Nice strong powerband, I loved it. Then I asked to drive a manual- I have always been a fan of MT, disliked AT. But man, to me the AT felt faster. I don't auto-x much anymore, and AT is nice in traffic....Called my Dragtimes guru - confirmed AT is fast - went home that day with a Step, Sport, graphite E90. Loved the car, so happy with the purchase. The next week I ordered my Procede from Vishnu, a week later v1.47 arrives, a couple hours to carefully install, and BAM! wow- the torque on this thing! The best single mod I had ever done - by far. The car felt sooo fast.... Drove for a couple of months and got used to the v1.47. The one thing I did not like about it was that the power did drop off in the upper rpm range. I found myself short shifting a lot. I started to get anxious for the V2. Thursday my V2 arrives, Installed it friday, and drove a bit with the bypass plugs in - so it is at stock power. Immediately I miss the procede. It feels so dramatically different. I cant believe I used to think this thing was fast stock. I think I would stick a pencil in my eye if I had to drive it around stock anymore! Off to my buddies house to install the v2 software..... V2 installed - no adjustment in TQ for a few days. From what I had been reading about the v2, I expected it to seem a little anemic at the 90% default settings. But no, my car is alive again!! Thank god!! It feels really strong - a lot stronger than I expected at 90%. A little "unsmooth", which I expected until the ECU adapts. But it really pulls nice in the upper rpm's. This is really nice. No limp's , No Cel's, nothing. Can't wait to adjust the user TQ..............

Congratulations ! Now upgrade progman to the new release. V2.0.2 is developed on a new release, throttle response will be different ( not that harsh as it is sometimes ). I will upgrade end of Jan. 08. I did not have any issues using the v2.0.2 29-12 map and the appropriate firmware. Everything works great so far . I am still @ 90% and use 95-96 octane AKI gas ( 100 octane RON ).

Glad you are happy.
Datalog that thing asap. Since you are on 93 Octane, you should be able to easily up the user torque settings so you get like 14.5-15 psi peak when accelerating in 3rd gear. (some cars are actually making the 15 psi peak while on the default settings of 90% but most are not so you should be able to up the boost and get even more power). Now get too it. |

Gator,
Yeah, I took it out to 27 on sunday and did some datalogging. I did a bunch of 1st through 4th runs, one run deep into 5th. I was seeing 14.1, 14.2 in 4th gear at 92%. On the run into 5th, I was at 15psi. It was cold that day, like 62, so I put the tq to 91.5 and called it a day. I was afraid to go higher since our ambient temps here are usually at least in the 80's, as you know of course. Do you think I can safely go up on the TQ??

Yeah, 5th is pretty fast, won't be doing that too often, probably never again. Anyway, how much will the boost go up if the ambient temp goes up 30 degrees to say the normal summer 90's?

Not sure; maybe Shiv could answer that. I suspect it could go up a bit (maybe 0.3-0.5psi), but not enough to worry too much about.

Its NOT. I am new to tuning, but I have followed everything to the letter so far and read about this spike in other posts. (that's not it) It is at the beginning at around 1000-3000 rpm. I would like to post the graph or send you the file if I knew how to do this. I can't seem to figure out how to post a pic of the graph or send the file. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

If you want, drop the user torque values below 3000rpm to 88%. And leave the values above 4500rpm at 92. Gradually smoothen out the difference in the 3000 to 4500rpm range (88,89,90,91).
