BMW-specific codes
I have the JBD CAN tool to read and clear codes, and I am getting some codes that I cannot find the meaning for, along with the occasional SERVICE ENGINE SOON light.
What do these codes mean? 496C 4D16 46A4 4600 |

Those look very close to DPF related codes. How many clicks on your car?

46,000. I bought her last June with 30,000 on her. My one-way commute, which I do weekly, is 140 miles, so I'm clocking about 500 miles per week. I absolutely love this car--she's a real beast and I get 42 mpg on my commute!

496C - P229F
Information saved in DDE Fault code 496C - P229F Fault text NOx sensor after DeNOx catalytic converter, plausibility NOx : Fault description Monitoring of NOx offset learning function at NOx sensor 2 (behind SCR). The error is recognized when the learned NOx offset value ppm rises above the limit value 20 ppm. Voltage condition: Continuous according to defined time grid when the offset test is enabled: - Enabled in application 0== 0. - The test is executed on a falling flank of . and when the following conditions are satisfied: - The absolute difference between the maximum ppm and minimum ppm NOx offset value is less than 2 ppm. - ppm is greater than 0 ppm. - The averaged offset value ppm lies within the monitoring window -30 ppm and 30 ppm. Voltage condition: The monitoring function is active when the conditions for SCR efficiency monitoring in efficiency range 1 and efficiency range 2 (according to temperature range) are satisfied. Condition for fault memory entry Event debounced (4) Action in service Refill SCR system tank with new fluid (urea quality) Use diagnostic system to test SCR converter. Check metering valve. Check NOx sensors. Inspect metering module for correct installation position and contamination. If results of all tests are OK: Replace SCR converter. The diagnostic trouble code is logged when the average offset value exceeds the limit of 30 ppm. The offset is calculated by averaging the pressure-compensated signal with the constant 1. Condition for fault identification Test condition: The test routine is executed when the signal flank rises for a duration of Exh_tiNOxOfsTstVldNoCat2Ds. Wow--UDAMAN. How can I get my hands on a complete listing of codes like that? Although my car seems to be running perfectly and gets great fuel economy, these codes are beginning to sound serious. I'd better schedule a dealer visit for this weekend. Thanks a million for the information.

Well I have an AllData Pro account so I can look up all sorts of stuff.
I'm looking to make a Sticky where people can post their DTCs and I'll post the info like I did above.

P0087 w/ JBD
Is this fuel rail pressure low (P0087) a side effect of running JBD at 100%?
Also, having difficulty clearing the code with the BT software and cable. Clear all codes doesn't seem to eliminate the check engine light. Any advice on either would be greatly appreciated. |

I believe it is. The only time I get this code is when I accelerate a little too aggressively before my engine has reached normal operating temperature. I clear the limp-mode and reduced power warning while driving, and use my handy dandy BMWhat and iPhone to clear the codes when I get to my destination.
I really like the BMWhat (now Carly) app. I have not used the JBD cable since I got it. |

Sorry to revive an old thread but this came up in my search for the meaning of a 436D code in my 2010 X5D. It comes back immediately upon startup. I can't figure out what it means anywhere. If anyone can help, I'd appreciate it.
Thanks. |
