Bms oil cooler valve???

So summer is upon us in almost all of the USA.. Its hot like Africa hot out!!
N54 no like hot weather (as with all turbo cars for that matter)

Anyways this might be an over thought question but with cooler oil temps you get cooler coolant temps... With cooler coolant temps you "can" get lower cyl/combustion chamber temps...

Where I'm going with this is not have people scene timing advances but more so a tidying up of logs and such... Not looking as a solution to clean up timing drops but more a preventive mod one might say

You mean the BMS thermostat valve? Not a good idea, it tricks the DME into running all of the oil through the oil cooler, not a good idea when the car is cold. Personally I would invest in an upgraded oil cooler, like an ER Sport or Dual Cooler.

It dosnt trick anything it's a physical valve that is fixed to flow to the oil cooler all the time lol

The dme has zero intervention haha

A 1k oil cooler upgrade would be great but hotroders for 109 years have altered coolant and oil t Stat temps like this... Kinda.. You don't put a giant radiator right in it that does nothing if your t Stat is set to open at 245

And the tstat upgrade does nothing if your cooling system is already maxed out.

Actually that's a common misconception. The OEM stat has holes to allow some oil to bypass the cooler and flow over the thermostat element. Those holes are not present on the BMS bypass to force more of the oil through the factory cooling system. It's not a huge upgrade. But for the price and ease of install compared to a full oil cooler upgrade kit, it's a nifty little mod.

Mike what are your thoughts on just putting in new lines and the adaptor plate? At that point would you just put in a whole new core?
