Problems with misfueling prevention door

Twice now in the last couple of months I've gone to fill my car from a standard diesel pump only to have the misfueling door fail to open. It seems to happen at some stations but not others. The misfuel door simply fails to open when I insert the nozzle and I'm stuck having to drive to another station and fill up there, where it magically works again. I can depress the detents with my finger and get it to open just fine, but occasionally the nozzle fails to release it. Anyone else have similar, seemingly random issues?

Yes, but I find gently rotating the nozzle generally works.

It happened to me just once while fueling using a standard diesel pump. I had to resort to using the BMW supplied diesel adapter, wiggling that in, and using the pump over that.

I think what happens is over time the diesel fuel pump nozzle gets beat up, probably from being dropped on the ground. Then it's no longer perfectly round and of the correct diameter to unlock the fueling protection door. This is why rotating to a rounder part may work.

+1

I have had a few issues and notice if I rotate the nozzle a bit and get the undamaged edge of the nozzle to align with the release pins my problem is solved. I would bet that OP's fueling door is not defective.

BTW that interlock saved my butt at a BP station, where they have gone "green." The green pump is gas, the black is diesel. Thankfully, could not get the danged green handle to fit.

Same here! Pretty lucky. I hear from the boys over at BPC that once you put gas in your 335d, the repair bill is about 10k!

Ya, rotate nozzle is always the fix. My favorite fueling station that has 75 cetane has a hardened reinforced tip on their nozzles.

Tempo, we in the rest of the country are envious of the HPR you Cali guys can get. I guess there are benefits diesel owner related in the other "less blue" states

I use the HPR juice every time I take a road trip to CA. I haven't noticed anything different in terms of performance or MPG, but maybe when I use it consistently it might be different.

I use the Power Service additive. Setting aside whether that is a good idea or not in general, and for sake of discussion assuming it is a good thing for regular diesel, what would be the forum thoughts on whether it would be less useful for HPR users?

Yep! As in my other thread, I'm seeing significantly less soot production/generation/accumulation/whatever-you-want-to-call-it in the DPF per mile. In other words, active regens occur less frequently

California Cetane

Was looking up the minimum cetane allowed in CA; came across this CARB chart.
