Mhd tune thought and question coming from a NOOB
Yes I know there is a general discussion, this thread is not for that purpose, it's more for a direct answer and first thoughts from original poster instead of 100 pages of questions pertaining to ones specific situation. I usually do not post an entire new thread, I'm more a forum stalker and go through already posted threads, doing research before posting.
The real answers I was always looking for was 1.) is it safe for my car? So to simply answer those 3 questions, I installed the V5, which is through beta testing and through ALL my research, people were very pleased with this option. 2.) Is it worth it? (money, time, risk) Is it worth it? Absolutely, for the $100 for the flasher, $50 for the stage to map, and $20 for BMW and otg cable = $170, WORTH EVERY PENNY 3.) Worst case scenario IF something happens? Worst case scenario if something happens, make sure the first thing you do is BACK UP ORIGINAL ECU and if say you do not like what flash is doing for your car, uninstall and rewrite original ecu settings. INSTALL TIME: 1 hour (buying flash, looking over options, plugging in car charger, writing flash, clean up.) INSTALL DIFFICULTY: 2/10 (very straight forward, if you can use a smart phone you can do this. ITEMS NEEDED: obd2 k-Dcan cable, otg (on the go) cable, android device, car charger Plug otg cable to k-dcan cable and android to cable. Plug k-dcan cable into obd2 port, open mhd app and turn car to on position and do not start. Go to mhd license store and it will read ecu and give you the flash options for your car, purchase flasher and what stage you want. Connect car charger to positive and negative battery terminal hookups under hood. Go back to android device, TURN ON AIRPLANE MODE, and ***BACK UP ECU!!!!***, then, run whichever flash you bought. Before clicking "write flash", click on options and turn applying options to desired liking, write flash, mine took 38 min and 20 seconds. I was not aware of this, BUT, During the flash there will be various lights (awd, dsc, abs, transmission, check engine) that do come in through your Idrive warnings, don't worry they will go off when flash is completely written. Unplug, take key out, plug key back in and start car you normally would and enjoy! Ok guys, I flashed my 2009 335i xDrive sedan with the mhd v5 stage 2 tune. My first impressions, like mostly everyone who has done this flash, was wow!!! I am new to the n54 platform but have always heard from friends and different forums how you can really unleash the beast after tuning these cars. I would say definitely best bang for your buck and so far so good. Couple of questions though; Mod list: VRSF catless downpipes, BMW axle back PE, BMS dci, CX racing charge pipe, hks bov, JB+ (75%-80%) 1.) installed stage 2 and set waste gate rattle to 80% and lag to 20%. Set blurple to 5 seconds and soft. Outcome: car felt good, sounded great with the "blurple" when stepping off gas, just didn't like all the lag and could still hear my dang waste gate rattle. Really ruins the whole sound of the car after you come ripping down the road, turning heads everywhere, and let off the gas only to have your car sounding like a wind up toy... Switched the wastegate rattle fix to 20% and lag to 80% Outcome: car felt much better and really took off now that the lag was eliminated. Took it on a road in Mexico and was able to really open her up. Putting the automatic trans in sport shifting from second to hear the car felt great through second and right at the middle or end of third bog down and went into limp mode and threw a check engine. When I flashed the car yet cleared all codes and shut check engine light off, it was usually on due to the downpipe. So I pulled over shut the car off, started her again and did another pull and same result. The car feels strong if I go through one gear, say second or third, but keeping my foot to the floor through gears, it bogs and limp mode. My thoughts immediately when I got home were, The stage 2 requires an intercooler which I will have shortly. thought that as long as I keep my eye on the temperature until it is installed I would be OK. Secondly, I never took the JB+ out and do not know how that fits into all of this. I had the same problem when I originally installed the JB+ and switched my spark plugs and I was fine. My questions and where advice from you guys would come in is; do I need to do something in order to continue using both mhd and JB+ within the actual flash or adjusting the JB+ itself. Next, should I uninstall stage 2 and install stage 1 until I install intercooler? Thanks in advance! |
