Springs
I recently changed from shocks from Bilstein B8's to Koni Yellow Sports. All seems to be good on that front. I kept my original Eibach Springs as they seemed fine but did have 100,000 kms on them from the Bilsteins.
The problem I am experiencing is that the back end is rubbing as the car seems to be compressing allot. I am wondering if I should now refresh the springs with the new set given that I now have about 120,000kms on those Eibachs? If I should refresh the springs, what is the best setup up to get in terms of characteristics? Thanks,

Did you reuse the shock mounts from before or did you get new ones?

^^^ +1 Very true. H&R are a bit lower but stiffer. I rubbed with H&R on previous F30 with just the Sports and people in the back. But for the most part it was great. I would double check your wheel/tire size as well.

If you didn't rub before, you shouldn't rub now because of a shock change. Shocks do not determine the total stroke of the suspension, but the bumpstop can be a limiting factor. Is there Bilstein supplied bumpstops? Perhaps those are longer or stiffer than the OE(Koni shocks use OE bumpstops)? 120K km could cause some springs to sag or lose its tension. You should inspect the springs for any damage and replace as needed. None. |
