Do 335i M-Sport brake pads need bedding in?
Hi all, do standard M-SPort 335i brake pads need a proper bedding in process? Or would a few sharpish slowdowns on the brakes without stopping be enough?

This is what I normally do. Medium braking: 20-0, I do this a few times before I hit the main road. 30-0 40-0 50-0 60-0, I do this one a few times, and switch over to hard braking. Then listen for any new weird noises. |

After the harder braking from the bedding in process (never stopping at any point), continue to drive normally without stopping and avoid using the brakes so that they can cool off, otherwise it's all for nothing and ruined. And yes, many people have differing views on how to do the bedding in of brakes, but I tend to agree with the above.

I stopped bedding breaks for almost 3yrs now. Really there isn't a point. Once u install everything, pump them and that's it. Alot of people do it wrong and get warped rotors after a couple thousand miles.

I think the main problem is that people have bad habits when using brakes. Try to avoid riding the brakes, rather use shorter more direct applications, try to avoid heavy braking if you can help it, and avoid sitting still holding the car with the brakes when they are hot - for example after some spirited driving or after coming to a stop from speed, you will heat-soak the disks and possibly have friction material transfer. This is another reason why I like driving manual cars - don't have to hold the car at the lights with the foot brake, can use the hand-brake. But I also find that what works is to allow the car to slowly roll forward while gently on the brakes waiting for the light to change - that way you are not concentrating the heat on one spot on the disks.
