2012 335xi E92 transmission fluid question

What fluid should be used? How much should this cost by an Indy? Just a drain and fill. Should I shop around? Need basic advice.

Hello? Also, had 30k on it but I just got a custom dyno tune so... it was recommended. SOS.

I believe your 335xi will have a ZF transmission, but you'll want to get underneath and check to be absolutely sure.

The ZF takes special ZF Lifeguard 6 fluid. There's a fairly convincing argument out there that Lifeguard 6 is the same fluid as Mercon SP. Somebody sent samples to Blackstone Labs, and they said the results were about as near to being the same fluid as you could get. The same ZF transmission is also used on some Ford vehicles, so it makes sense that they would have a fluid for it.

So I'd have no problem using Mercon SP (only SP, not any other kind of Mercon!), but if you want to be absolutely safe you could get actual ZF Lifeguard 6. The ZF fluid is much more expensive.

I'd guess a drain and fill would be about 1.5 hours or so of labor. I would definitely bring the fluid myself to be sure they use the correct one.

A little early on the oil change if you ask me, but it can't hurt lets put it that way.

I know Frank and team do not recommend things just because.

ZF Lifeguard 6 or OE (same but even more pricey)if you are concerned about warranty coverage.

I think it's a little precautionary but what do I know. I'd rather not deal with any problems down the road because of not doing something as simple as this. Stay on top of maintenance 101 I suppose.
