Member Help Requested

First post by newish member. CPO warranty ending for 2011 335D with Sport package. Only problems to date associated with DEF tank and EGR system. Would love some unbiased assessment of tune available from JRAuto (Megaspeed sourced) versus service provided by BPC in Raleigh. I want a strong, clean, trouble free upgrade that enhances the base platform while eliminating the weakness; DPF, EGR, SCR delete. Its a big investment for me thus the question of which tune to choose. I plan to continue to drive daily, autocross occasionally, and peak numbers are secondary. Thanks in advance!

You are not likely to get unbiased feedback. The fact is folks are pleased in both camps. Frankly, based on your criteria, it would seem price point would be the only differentiator, as either can meet your needs.

They are both very good tunes. If you are close enough to either location to get a dyno tune then you should go that route.

DWR is right. We are biased due to most of us only having experience in one camp or the other. I know of one senior member that has used both but I will let him speak without calling out his/her name.

It sounds like you would need/want a stage 2 tune from JR Auto which is around $800-$900 and can be done by the US located AARodriguez (he is in Georgia). There I go showing my JR Auto bias. I'm unsure of price and stage name for BPC. There is a dedicated thread by BPC for this info. Bob from BPC may be along shortly or go find his thread if not.

It seems I recall Thecastle doing a similar comparison and decided upon JRAuto based on price. Go find his thread. He has asked basically same question as you have. We get this recurring theme of "what/who has the best deal and minimum hassle tune?". I won't be a butt and fuss about you not searching yet. I feel we should teach newbies and junior members rather than running them off. We all started at this point so pay back is warranted.

Pointers on using search.
You can used advanced search and search under threads started by user. Makes sure to aim the search from only M57/N57 diesel section and child threads. The search function takes some learning. It is harder to find posts when the user has responded to some one else's thread. You can search under all user's posts but then you get a whole bunch or crap to sort through.

To be fair, BPC's earlier tunes had a little hiccup with the DEF tank level causing "xxx miles to no start" but he has ironed that out now. So, if you find threads about this, it has been corrected when those people got retunes to get rid of that "bug". I recall the retune was done for free. There, now I am more unbiased. Happy reading, welcome to our diesel sub forum, and good luck with your decision.

I contacted both BPC and Andrew (jerek) I had in my mind from using the search function about a hundred times that I was giving the edge to BPC and was going to purchase from them. I sent them an inquiry and they took a few days to get back to me and quoted me prices for stuff I told them in the estimate request I already had. So, it was really close and Jerek is cheaper and actually lists their prices on their website. So i just went ahead and sent my ECU to Andrew and got basically a three hour turnaround and up to the minute updates from him. Which I was pleased with. I don't have anything bad to say about BPC at all. I just did not like my contact with them. And the two were so close, it just steered in me in a different direction. After about 5 thousand miles I could not be happier with my 2.5 tune.
You really can't go wrong either way. I would suggest what hooper says and using the search function.
