My MHD Flash experience
Hello, Just wanted to provide my experience with MHD Flasher for all those considering it: I purchased the MHD Flash on google apps for $99, then the map was $49, then the monitoring was $49. I then had to buy a OBD cable ($40) and adapter for your smartphone ($10). I bought the cables at oembimmerparts.com and they worked fine - no problems. Since I have a 2007 335i model, I needed the K-line cable, not the D-Can, but I think the cable I received was compatible for both.
I flashed stage I 91 octane because I have no other mods except DCI. Trying to find clear instructions on how to do the flash was frustrating because there were none! I had to read through about 250 pages of posts and take little nuggets from here and there - truly a pain. Would be nice to have detailed instructions - even the user manual does not tell you enough, e.g. do you unplug the cable first or turn of the ignition? do you plug the cable into the OBD before turning on accessories or after? There are a dozen questions like that that come up when you are flashing, but you have no answers. I just guessed. Download took 16 minutes. Yes, I bought a battery charger and had it running. Flash went flawlessly. Then, on my first run, I received a cylinder #5 misfire and went into limp mode. I reset the code, but it kept coming back, even at very light throttle. So, I had to flash my ECU back to stock. The misfires immediately went away. I talked to Martial several times who said to log some data and send to him (he is very good at responding to emails!). Unfortunately, I could not even do a run because the misfire would occur immediately at part throttle. Martial thought it was coils or plugs or HPFP. I was on my original coils, so I replaced them with the newer Eldor coils (oembimmerparts.com; part# 12138657273); I replaced my plugs at the same time with OEM Bosch (ZGR-6-STE2; #12120037244) even though mine were less than 20K old. FWIW, the Eldor coils are so much beefier than the old Bosch - they really feel a step above in quality - highly recommend changing them out! Car runs great now. I reflashed the MHD and no issues! Car is definitely quicker now. BLUF: MHD Flash is great because it lets you choose a map that is geared toward the mods (or lack of mods) on your car. It is relatively inexpensive, flexible and allows you to monitor, if you are into that kind of thing. However, for me, it was not the $149 bargain flash that people talk about. My guess is that many people will be like me and immediately have to replace coils and/or plugs. You may also have HPFP issues that need to be resolved. However, these are all items that you would have to address with any other flash - JB4, Cobb AP, etc. It is just the nature of the beast. I did the coils and plugs myself; still my out of pocket total cost for everything was over $500. Not bad for extra 50+hp! I am glad I did it. Although it can be "scary" the first time you are flashing the instructions are posted just about everywhere and it very straightforward in the app. When to plug in the cable to the car, or your phone doesn't matter. It as simple as plug everything up, put key in ignition, turn car on (foot off brake, so no engine), select flash a built in map and pick any options you want and you are done... |

Oh look. Another thread about MHD. I'm so glad that this is so outstanding that it can't be posted with that thread. Also, there is a help button in the app. It contains....
Help. |

Please get yourself a box of tampons, it wil save you a lot of time writing up posts like this (going all out for a vicious answer, needing the last word etc.) And while youre at it bring some more for your fellow haters.
You've got some very good points, but the hatefull shit in between from you and some other members is more anoying then the 'dumb' questuons |

If you spent about 10 minutes on the Forum, you'd find almost every question about oil and mhd has been asked 800 fucking times by newbies |
