Because using plastic would most likely require injection molding which is expensive as hell. Then people would bitch "That much for a piece of plastic? Your prices are too high!"

It appears to me like the lid for the airbox is sitting on the intake in the picture? Anybody else agree? I really can't see any other reason for putting a peice of metal over the intake.

Hmmm.....this has got me thinking. I bet the top opening on that thing would line up pretty good with my vented hood, she'd be sucking nice cold air through the hood vents.

I actually looks like a decent design, I'm awaiting unbiased and correctly done dynos. I really could care less about what it looks like under my hood where nobody but me see's it.

I think it's for "aesthetics". He said it seals against the hood. If you look at the mock up box it has no provisions for fastening a lid and rubber edging to seal against something.
