Airbag/Seatbelt Light - I know the reason...
Hi All,
I've used the forum search functions, but most threads are regarding finding the issue that causes these lights to come on (large airbag + small airbag and small seatbelt lights). I have a 2007 (March) E90 320d. Owned for about 5 weeks now, but not having much luck so far (see my other thread!). Just driven family to Cornwall, round Cornwall and back to the midlands (about 800 miles and was a lovely drive!). just arrived back today and seems that the Daughter had took her converse off in the back of the car and shoved them under the passenger seat (I only found out when the lights came on - knew there were some sensitive wires/connectors under there, so was the first question asked!) She said her lace got 'snagged' under the seat so she 'pulled' it out ![]() Sure enough, the small connectors towards the back of the seat underside (I believe these are the occupancy sensor wires?) were disconnected. I have 'very carefully' reconnected them and have driven a few miles (suggested on the wider internet) in the hope the lights would go off... they haven't... I don't want to do any more before I check with you guys as you have much more experience than me! Some have advised drive it a while and the lights will go off... others suggest disconnecting the battery for a while... Will either of the above work? are there any risks with disconnecting the battery (assume just the negative lead?) or has anyone else got any advice (or are local to Notts/derby and have code reader capable of resetting these lights *cheeky*)... Thanks in advance, Steve. Last edited by [steve]; 08-06-2016 at 11:22 AM.. |

Some cars wont Auto-reset airbag system faults. The light will come on and stay on until reset, even once you've repaired the issue, presumably because its safety critical. Disconnecting the battery wont do anything, the faults are recorded in non-volatile memory and will still be there after resetting the power.
Diagnostics are thus required, and will tell you either b) you've already fixed it and just need the fault cleared, or b) theres some other issue that you've not yet fixed. |

I had the airbag light activate on my 2010 e90 after having some work done on the sound system, I had to take it into the stealers to have it reset.

Cheers guys,
Thought as much, so called the RAC, all reset ![]() Threw up that Glow Plugs 1, 2 & 3 were not activating, but think it's ok as starts on the button (literally) every time... Steve. |
