I think I'm the only one here that has the serial port in the back of my laptop though so I'll just stick with that. (I bought it only 7 years ago)

I like the idea thought I have the USB/AUX in my car so it would work and I decided to go the serial-usb in the glove box.

What is this "I" piece you talk about that clips the cable in the glove box? pic?

I still think if a BMW Tech saw the cable end in the ECU box, they would know something was up. Instead of leaving it in the glove box just shove it down so it sits on the panel below the glovebox. Either way there is going to be one end still in the ECU box. You could hide the ECU side under the ECU... or just take it out.
