Tint question...please help

Hey guys...well two months back I got a tint job done on my Sparkling graphite e90...I got 35% done all around and now I'm starting to think it really isn't dark enough...I talked to the guy today and I asked him if he could remove the tint for me and go with say a 18% and he recommended I just get another layer of 35% put on..he is very well known in the houston area but I'm wondering is he trying to take the easy way out?...Is it better to remove the tint and redo it completely? Any help appreciated please

Well, removing the tint and re apply will cost you more money than putting another layer ontop. I've seen this done before. If the tint guy is good, you shouldn't have any issues. Roofers do the same when it comes to re shingling your roofs.

good point ....he's charging me dealer cost to add another layer...which is about $50 less than his tint job....but I mean if it loses quality I am willing to pay an extra $50 what do you recommend?

Get it redone!!! Take off and put the new 18%..... Less chance of bubbling and blur in the long run...

Yes it will cost you a little more, but a little cost more is peace of mind

Whats up Coug? I would just go with what he is recommending. If you are worried that he is being lazy, go to another shop and see what they say.....

just got my alpine white 335 tinted with 15% llumar tints. Looks amazing. The guy told me to prevent the tinting from fading avoid using windex or chemical based glass cleaner as that will fade the tint. Not sure if that just bs but i'm gonna take his word for it

its better to remove it. but it willl usually cost more to remove and retint. the only time i've ever seen people do two layers is if they went 5% twice on the rears... which my friend did on his ML

+1 I've seen them do layers also on the windshield. Like if you got the whole windhshield at 35% and you still wanted the strip on top they have to layer that.

I agree getting it removed. I think most shops charge about $15 - 20 per window to remove.. Windshields they charge a little more like $35. Make sure you take it in on a warm day, so they can get the tint off easier.

IMO 30% + is too light for my taste. I would get 35% on my windshield which I did not do on my 335. I decided to go with the llumar Platinum series 20%. It is a metallic tint, but I have no problems with my CA that some others have mentioned. I still wanted a classy look so 15% didn't really achieve that look I wanted. 20% was perfect and I usually get 15% on all my cars with 35% on the whole windshield.

It's not b.s. It can/will turn tints blue and cause them to start bubbling.

That's why I'm giving metallic tint a try if I can't find a less expensive brand (madico) ceramic around Houston.

I asked my installer if they do ceramic and they don't carry the stuff. I thought well I'll give the metallic a try. Thing is it will look great for a long time and it works great with my CA. Not sure if others are getting metallic tint that is more metallic then others, but I know the Llumar Platinum Series works at 20%.

dude, you drive a 335i, get it redone. Don't do that ghetto shit of putting two tint films on top of each other.

correct..just use water or add some wash suds..no chemicals

no ghetto double tint...do it right and have it redone..if you are worried about the back window, double tint that only.

Since its not that old you should be able to remove it yourself, except the rear window I would leave that to a professional.

+1 Redo it. Don't be ghetto. I wouldn't risk it really screwing something up.

I have 20% on my AW and I love it.
