2006 320i e90 137k miles using LOTS of oil :(
I have an e90 320i, 2006 model with 137k miles on it and I've noticed that in the last few years it's oil consumption has gone through the roof. The exhaust isn't smokey and it doesn't feel down on power. According to the MOTs I have (I've had the car nearly 10 years) the emissions are fine. No blue smoke on startup or acceleration, but I have noticed a pattern to the consumption. If I do any high speed/vigorous driving the consumption goes up. For example at the weekend I did 120 miles of high speed driving (70+mph on the motorway) and it drank oil, 250ml's worth at least.
Any ideas? Is the PCV crankcase breather valve to blame? The car is high mileage and has other possibly expensive repairs coming up (corroded rear brake pipes necessitating fuel tank removal, rattly exhaust catalyst, possibly front suspension bushes/struts etc) but other than those it's fine and drives well. All the toys still work, electric windows, heated seats, folding mirrors, climate and even the leather seats are still in decent nick though the driver's side bolster is a bit worn. Perhaps time to ditch it before prohibitively expensive repairs become necessary? |

Check your engine bay for signs of leaks, remove the the engine cover, start the engine and see if you can spot any smoke
Oil leaks are hard to diagnose at times - also if possible remove the undertray and see if any spots of oil form under the car |
