Sadness. Was about to buy m3 mirrors only to find out I have 5 pin even though my mirrors have auto dim, heated, memory and power options.

Sadly it seems I don't. I have memory seats, but the mirror position does not change with the seat position if different from the memory position. The rear view mirror has what appears to be a sensor, which is located at the centre of the mirror at the top, but shining a light on it does not cause either the rear view mirror or wing mirrors to dim. The wing mirrors have some form of coating with an edge boarder with no coating. That plus the sensor on the rear view mirror makes me think I have the hardware but it is nobbled by software. I don't know why 'BMW make it so complicated or why they charge a premium for features that should be stock on any BMW car.

interior mirror actually have two sensors, one from drivers side and one from windshield side and compare incoming light intensity from both sides, and if rear internsity is more intense it's dims and send signal via three buses to outside mirrors
everything should work, try to drive at night with cars behind you

you can make photo of your side mirror glasses and we can say if you have outside auto-dim or only your inside mirror is autodim

You can have an auto dim interior mirror and standard 5 pin wing mirrors.

You can't have auto dim on exterior mirrors unless they use the LIN bus and therefore have 3 pins.

Quickest way to check if your mirror is capable is to pop off the mirror cap

I think I know what the problem was. The car needs to be in gear for auto dim to work and I tested it in neutral. Reverse gear stops auto dim on the rear view mirror. Lol I've had my car for nine months now and I haven't driven it in the dark yet.
