ED pricing

Hello Everyone from a hopefully-soon-to-be newbie.

I'm interested in the cost savings associated with the European Delivery program. For example, the listed "Base Price Euro Delivery" for a 328i convertible is $36,960 (source: 2008 Model Year "Confidential Wholesale Price", listed on this website). However, the BMWUSA website includes a different European Delivery Price list. The same car is listed at $40,175 on their website.

Am I correct in assuming that this difference (about $3k) is sort of equivalent to "dealer invoice" and "dealer MSRP", respectively?

I read on this website that my ED price can be calculated by starting with $36,960, and adding retail price for options, $750 delivery, tax, title, license, and a reasonable dealer profit (say $500 to $1,500). This results in a savings, compared to dealer MSRP, of around $6k. Does this seem right or am I missing something here?

Thanks in advance for your input.

Regards, Michael

Michael,
You were correct in term of dealer invoice and MSRP. But for options, you don't have to add using retail price. You can add options using the same confidential wholesale price for each option. Then the total is the dealer's invoice total. You negotiate with the dealer based on that total + dealer's profit (usually ranging from $700 to $1200, depending on the dealer. But don't pay more than $1000 over invoice). The saving is a little less than you calculated since nobody would pay MSRP. If you have a US delivery, it's usually $2000 off MSRP, depending on the model. Hope that helps.

Thanks for the response.

So what is the correct Euro Delivery Base Price for a 328i convertible? Is it $36,960 as listed in the "confidential wholesale price" listing, or $40,175 as listed on the BMWUS website?

I don't have the confidential wholesale price listing for 328i convertible. But if it said $36,960, then that's one. But again, that's the dealer's invoice price. As for the one listed on BMW site, I guess you could say that that's the Euro Delivery MSRP. For example, mine is 328i sedan. Euro Delivery price listed on BMW site is $30,130. But the price I used to negotiate is actually $27,720. If I just get the base one without option, then I would add about $1000 to it. So, I would offer $28,720 to the dealers. The bottom line is your saving will be very close to the one listed on bmw website, which in your case is around $3,000

OK, to clarify, there are 4 different "terms" related to pricing for the base 328i convertible. These include:

Base Price Euro Del (from conf. wholesale list) = $36,960
European Delivery Price (from BMW website) = $40,175
Dealer Invoice (which should be about equal to $40,175)
Dealer MSRP =$43,200

I will add option prices to the $36,960, delivery fee of $750, tax, title, plates, and a dealer profit of say $750. Does this seem correct?

Hey, Michael..Irv Robinson is in your area, I think. I didn't do a deal with him personally. Seeing all the recommendations from this board, I decided to email him, thinking maybe I'd order from him and have him ship the car to my local dealer. But he was too busy and didn't get back to me until a week later. So, I went with a local one. But, man, he seemed really nice for a saleman. Though I told him I already ordered, he still offered me advice for my ED trip. Where do you find a saleperson like that? So, check him out first

Funny, last night I came across his name and checked out his website (EDBMW.com). I've already downloaded and filled out his "pre-registration" form. Thanks again!

Don't forget that with ED you don't pay MACO and training fees. Also, you can negotiate out the doc fees lots of times so you can save more. In Florida that's saving me $1150. Total difference between ED Invoice w/Dealer markup and US MSRP (including fees) for the 335i Coupe I'm getting is $6,965.

As someone else mentioned, it's possible to get a US delivered car below MSRP but that's totally dependant on the model and local market. I've found nobody in my area (Tampa, FL) is selling coupes for less than US MSRP.

I was worried about all the nonsense fee before I came in the dealer. But it turned out that there was only $50 document fee. So, there's no point in asking about it.

Are you sure that MACO is waived for ED? Is there any official documentation online somewhere??

Thanks.

Yes, I'm positive MACO is not charged for ED Check http://www.bimmerfest.com/wiki/index...opean_Delivery or here http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=25 for lots more detail. Yes, I know that those are not "official" BMW sites but if your dealer insists it needs to be charged, direct them to BMWNA or you can easily go to the ask-a-dealer forum on Bimmerfest where a CA can tell you where it's officially documented. My car is on order with none of these charges added.
