N53 EGR

Hi

I have a weird random stutter which happens when the engine is under low load around 2200rpm. For example top gear cruising 75 ish on the flat.

It feels like a misfire.

I've seen diesel owners complain of something similar and it turns out to be EGR.

My question is do any other n53 owners get this and does anyone know if the EGR could be causing it.

Engine runs fine pulls like a train etc so is running fine. Just annoying little misfire. Had new injectors plugs etc recently BTW. In suspect it's normal.

Thanks
Mike

Mike this sort of fault could be one of many things including: coils; vanos solenoids; MAF or MAP sensors: EGR valve etc etc. You need to get any fault codes read and/or a check with diagnostic software, otherwise it's just guesswork (and very expensive guesswork at that!).

Coils most probably or hpfp - low pressure fuel sensor.

No codes last time I checked. Am on holiday at moment with car so can't check codes.

Is an occasional misfire normal while under no load? I'm talking VERY infrequent. Can be felt by passenger though when it does happen.

Idle is rock solid.

Agree codes is normal way to diagnose but I get the feeling this is somewhat normal.

Mine was doing the same on highway with cruise control last year without any code and problem was Bosch coils that was 2 years old...i replaced them with latest Delphi part and that solved the problem.
