Accurate, certain parts of the US have arbitrary speed limits of 55mph on the interstate left over from the gas crisis era. The northeast is stuck at 65mph while parts of the west where it's straight and sight lines are for miles speedlimits are 70-80mph. Yet, take the NJ turnpike during rush hour before traffic builds up and everyone is doing 80-90 in a 65 .

I am strictly against the steadfast speed limits, there should be when there is a bad weather, road construction or close to highway intersection. In straight highways or autobahn a restricted speed limit namely 120 km/h is pure nonsense. It's even more senseless when you drive a high end car, not just from 20th century left overs without ABS,ESP or such driving aids
Lane discipline is a must and so is drivers education. May be this "privilege" can be granted by authorities for non German countries or increase the driver education |

Coming from Illinois to Arizona, I can tell you state laws make a huge difference. The highway speeds in IL were 55, people drove around 65. Here in Phoenix the signs say 65, people go 80+ when it is isn't congested.
