Looking to get into a P car, recommendations?
First off, I love my F80, but I really want to get into a Porsche in the future. Perhaps an X3 for daily and a 911 Turbo for fun. I can't see myself buying a new Turbo, but I do like the 997.
1) What the most popular Porsche forum? 2) How is the maintenance on the 997 Turbo? Any particular yr to avoid? Disclaimers etc?

I had a 2008 997.1 TT, and nothing really went wrong except the clutch master slave cylinder under warranty. Apart from that, there was nothing wrong in the three years I owned it. I loved that car.

When I had a P-car, I belonged to Rennlist. I liked it a lot.
I know there are others too and I'm sure you'll get more recommendations for that as well. Check out this article for information on buying a 997TT: http://rennlist.com/how-tos/a/porsch...s-guide-376288

Rennlist and 6speedonline are probably the 2 best P car resource forums. Good luck on your P car search

I have no Porsche ownership knowledge.
Just lover of GT3's. Best car I have driven so far in my life has been a 991 GT3. I frequently listen to Matt Farah's The Smoking Tire podcast. On an episode long ago I learned something cool about Porsche's. Porsche's have like an ECU over rev counter. Dealers (and you with the right hardware) can pull a count of how many over revs their were on the engine. A very enthusiast option if you ask me. You will see a lot of Porsche's for sale mention this number as well. |

I had a 2005 997S Coupe.
1 month before CPO expired I had IMS failure (Catastrophic engine failure) This was a flaw in late 996-997 models that Porsche never owned up to. Luckily I got a brand new engine from Stuttgart and my world was full of beauty once more. If you do get one get model starting from 2009 and up. Unless of course you want to go air-cooled. |

I would do 6speedonline.
You have to first choose whether or not you want manual or PDK and how much modding you're going to do. The 997.1 has the Mezger engine that is usually the choice of heavy modding. To get the most out of it, you have to go manual since the PDK has a lower threshold of what HP it can handle. If you wanted the updated PCM, rear tail lights, minor updates then I would get the 997.2 in PDK. The PDK is supposedly updated in the .2 wit the DFI engine. To me, there is less lag in the .2 stock for stock. The suspension feels updated too but no one can confirm.

Maintenance isn't that bad.
Service A which is oil change only every other time is about $220. The turbos require more frequent spark plug service (every 40k I think ) and if you get PDCC that is another added expensive of changing out the fluids there every couple years.

Ideally a TT for weekend and either the M3 for DD or something more practical... 4 series GC? Sport Wagon? Tesla 3?

For me, I would go with Carrera S manual or PDK, if this is a daily driver car. I would get a slightly used (2 years) one with extended warranty.
