Wrapped my trim.
Had some time today in the evening to wrap my burl wood trim in 3m Carbon vinyl. This is my second e90 and my 2nd time doing it. Love how it came out. What do you guys think.

Dude it looks amazing....thinking about doing this as well since I hate the wood look. How hard was it to install especially the center console and also do you have the link to the wrap?

Good Job! I am now trying to pick out my trim color.
I have Black Sapphire on Black leather I am down to two options: Gloss Black vs Gloss Black Metallic I like the deep dark look of the gloss black, but I think it could be really cool to have it look like the exterior color. What do you think? |

came out really nice (going clean) my e92 is alpine white with leather black guts. de-badge.black grill blacked out window trim. blacked out side markers. going for the panda look so now i am thinking about doing the wood trim .. gloss white.. or as close to alpine white i can find. i think it would just pop so good off the black interior. i was going to try to do it myself as i bought all the plastic prying tools. I am a little nervous about taking on the center console .. should i be ? I am very mechanically inclined and i have patience even even to do it over the course of a few days to drive the car with the trim out i don't mind. |

update. I started my carbon wrap .. All i have left is center console (doing it piece by piece one section at a time just trying to find the time to do it) i also wrapped the center strip that is over the cup holders and the face plate surrounding the a/c controls when i go for the center console. i am also doing the plastic that surrounds the inside door handles as well, steering wheel and shift knob.
pictures when done. |

Hi Puddyboy, the center console is not the worst/hardest part, but if you started like I did trying to nudge the console out with fingers and gentle talk, it might scare you into thinking there's magic involved to get the thing out. There isn't, it's just that the damn thing is pushed in so damn hard in the first place and the fit is tighter than all the others put together. The pry tools are saviours for this one, start at the end closer to the center console, away from the dashboard side where it's thinned out and less robust because of the holes for the ashtray, gear stick etc. Don't try to lift it off in one go, insert your trim tool of choice, lever the trim out a millimeter, then keep going slowly and go by feel, a little here, a little there, and all of a sudden you'll feel the trim pop out properly.

But...matching to the exterior colour will be a bitch. If you don't get a good match it will look cheap. When I did mine I originally wanted to match my monacau dark blue and simply couldn't find a good textured dark blue, so I went for brushed aluminium black (offset by Dakota cream beige interior). One day I'll find a match and give it a try. The other day I sen a mail to some folks in Germany who sell vinyl for surface decoration and asked them if they would let me have a small quantity. They never replied and I might chase them on that one because...well, just check out their brushed vinyls and tell me that wouldn't be pure trim porn. http://houssini.com/en/ |
