Pretty much. It holds the gears longer so it doesn't shift as much, it also starts in 1st gear instead of 2nd. I only drive in DS, I like the engine braking, the fact that I'm always around 1500-2000 rpm, and starting in first gear from a stop. I'm sure u get better MPG being in D vs DS but I like DS better

DS might be better in terms of CBU as it holds a higher RPM. I'm still not convinced "driving it like you stole it" keeps CBU away. Perhaps it just may delay things some.
I'm not sure about the 1st gear thing either. When I drive in DS mode and go to the manual mode by using paddles or shifter, it says M2 on the cluster when coming to a stop. I can only force M1 by switching to it after coming to a stop with paddles or shifter. It's silly to do this as an almost immediate shift is needed to M2 |

D and DS both start in 1st gear from a complete stop.

I agree on the CBU cleaning not requiring higher RPMs or "Drive like you stole it". In fact, I monitored several successful regeneration cycles that were in stop and go 45 MPH traffic. This was verified against mileage between Regen's vs higher RPM cycles. Absolutely no difference. The only thing that stopped the DPF from a successful regen was being stopped for too long.
IMO.....The EGR does a good job of controlling exhaust temps at various levels of load as long as the minimum is maintained. |

![]() I drive mine in DS/Manual all the time, for the past 40K or so not afraid of good solid redline merges, mostly HWY driving at 70-75. CBU cleaning at 73K (first 30K of its life was not in my hands, last 40 have been). Will be rectifying CBU with a trip to NC soon... - b |

Only manual mode starts in 2nd gear, D/DS are first gear starts. This has been the same in my car for the past 130k miles that I've driven it.
