Especially if one is going to school to become an accupuncturist

FCIM = $8000 per semester for a 3 year program. That equals about $16k per year. Therefore, $48k for the program. You finish school after paying $48k to make $100k on the high, high end. (according to official googling for 5 minutes of acupuncture salary where many are in the $50k-70k range).

So maybe you have a job where the freedom of the job even with an acupuncturist's salary is worth leaving your current high paying gig that allowed you the financial freedom to purchase and modify said F80 M3.

You don't need to be loaded to live in a nice part of Southern California. Do you even know neighborhoods?

Even Santa Ana, which gets a lot of flack for being a not so nice place to live in, has Floral Park.

Why would anyone, who hasn't just immigrated from China or is a fob, move to Santa Ana?!!! They don't call it "Chan Gabriel" for nothing !!!

hahaha - I hope you get box seats. I went to the ground area and it was a bit scary at how many people looked to be spending all of their paycheck on horses.

So where might one recommend in California if you're looking for:

1. Safe neighborhood
2. Decent schools
3. 2k+ sq ft home with a garage for under $350k
4. Close proximity (20'ish minutes or less) to good driving roads
5. Less than an hour from a major airport

Does such a place exist?

You lost us at under 350k...

You're moving an hour from major airport - maybe Santa Rosa and tons of nice roads (wine country) and about an hour to SFO... Could be doable...

I wouldn't suggest anyone live in Santa Ana but to your point, parts that are in South Cost Metro are definitely above average too.

Unfortunately, such a place does not exist. Number 3 disqualifies you from 2, 3, 4, and 5. It's not even close. Maybe in 2006.

Don't quote me because I'm not a realtor but I think $500k is a minimum and that won't likely include a single family home so no yard and massive HOA. The HOA will knock 50-80k off most peoples budget and when you end up close to $400K there's just nothing really good to be had.

We call that Arizona or Nevada. You DON'T want to live in any place in So Cal that is $350K for 2k sq ft.

Put it in perspective, I live in 900 sq ft condo and paid more than $350K. But I live in a coastal city. HOA is $350/month which is reasonable out here.

OP - SD is beautiful, but you pay more to play the game out here. Biggest draws and the climate obviously. We rarely have humidity and I'm not even sure what a hurricane is. As for as politics? Unless you are in politics I don't know a single person out here that cares, much less cares enough that they want to move.

Which is exactly why I'll be leaving Florida myself & moving back to SoCal.

There might be a happy medium......Colorado. I'm tempted to move there except my wife wants to stay in Dallas near her mom. But if you like mountains, CO is the place to be.

You can scratch Santa Rosa / Napa and surrounding areas off your list as well... It has been brought to my attention that it's nowhere near 350K...
