If you are inexperienced in BMW software I would leave CAS alone. It's not difficult but if it fails the vehicle won't start and your wallet will begin to hurt.
If you do decide to flash it then my advice is: - Test your setup first in KOMBI or some other simple module. - Use good quality DCAN cable or ICOM / OPPS unit. - Use a power supply capable of delivering 13.8v constant power and rates 70amp or higher. - Keep laptop plugged into power. |

I've recently installed inpa, tools etc, and after a few false starts and a replacement k d-can cable, I successfully cleared the steering Lock elv counter and red fault light. It comes back, and I've cleared again. 4 years ago I had this done by an indy, who said it would not recur as he had disabled the check. Earlier this year I fitted a new but higher Ah battery, non AGM unlike the original. Another indy coded this, a bigger process than just change of Ah as the factory spec has to be changed to shift from AGM to non AGM ( to avoid frying new battery with agm higher charging rates). I'm thinking the first indy disabled the elv check by updating the CAS. The second reinstated the old version of when re-writing my edited factory spec. So my question is, does updating the CAS remove or disable the steering lock check. Second, is there a tutorial anywhere. Fear of bricking means I'll probably ask the indy, but only if it prevents the frequent reoccurrence, while the car unlocks/locks OK. |
