I have had my BMW E30 for less than two years (~32000 Miles), now its CBT is asking for a Service/Inspection every 3 months/4500 Miles
![]() a) The Engine/Car reliability has deteriotated badly b) The CBM service is corrupted/confused/ not very intelligent ! c) Its a BMW scam to bring in more Servicing costs The car did not require its first service, until it had done 17,500 miles, after around 16 months of use. I was then pretty impressed with CBM. But now the CBM is asking for a Service/ Inspection every 3 to 4 months ! My previous 20 year old E30 BMW only needed a Servcie every 6 months, ~ 10,000 miles. If this is really typical of an E30 Servicing needs I am no longer impressed and I am going to have to ditch it, and go for a more reliable/cheaper to maintain Audi instead ![]() Anyone else having similiar experience ? By E30, you meant E90?
There's a post somewhere here that shows you how they calculate the interval. Wish E90Fleet could chime in.

Yep sorry, I did mean my 'new' E90 3 series (being compared to my old E30 3 series)
The CBM (or CBS) does not seem smart enough to recognise combining upcomming Oil changes with Inspections, so BMW are coining it in. Not that they actually do much in either Oil Change or Inspection. |

Dealers and BMW are separate. BMW doesn't really make money when the dealer services your car, the mechanics make money off the labor and the dealer pockets a little too. BMW might make a few cents on materials at best.
In other words BMW has no reason to try and scam you into going in for service.

Not at all familiar with UK service program but maybe it is a sign to bring the car in to check the service indicator itself.
I have no problem with the CBM. My understanding is the system will notify you that a service is needed (that does not mean it is an oil change). Either you have to scroll throught the list of service to see which service is due or take it in and bmw will tell you what service is needed or tell you the CBM is screwy and need fixing itself.

Had an inspection about 3 months after first oil change. Then another 3 months and they needed to replace the air filters for the cabin, so i had them do the ozone treatment too. Right about due for another oil change now.
It's never cost me more than a few minutes of time at the dealership, and I've always received a loaner vehicle of some sort for the day. |

I actually think the opposite.
I think that it's ridiculous that we go 17k miles before an oil change. They claim free maintenance and do 3 oil changes in 50k miles? That's maintenance??

![]() On a more serious note: I like the direction bmw is going with their oil change in term of environmental responsibility. I think CBM is great in that it reduces the amount of oil we used. Also, I think BMW has been on the leading edge with the more power and less fuel consumption campaign (maybe not in the ///M division ![]()

You'd actually be forgiven to think that these cars never need anything changed from the way they talk about it, and I don't buy it. To me at least, the fluids especially are just plain funny. It's all 'lifetime fill,' or else has some very long change intervals. If BMW's fluids are so clearly superior, then I have a great idea for them. Sell the stuff on the open market so anyone can buy them. Compete against Mobil 1 with oil, Redline for the trans, etc. The way I've heard these things played up, BMW should have no problem putting the competition out of business. n.b. this is a bit tongue in cheek
