Latest CIC with Combox vs NBT

Is there much difference between the latest CIC software version with combox compared to NBT?

My CIC is a bit dated and i was due to go down the combox route with the latest maps and software. However, ive now started thinking about NBT.

Are NBT costs still very high for retrofits?

Its basically comparing the cost of retrofitting combox versus whole nbt.
I wrote comprehensive comparison when I retrofitted on my e91. It was firs e9x in the uk to get it done.

The real difference is
- ability to play video from usb on nbt
- faster user interface on nbt
- lane guidance on nbt
- home screen weather widget on nbt
- touch system controller on nbt

Now are these essentials to have? Only you can answer it.

If I was going from business cic, then yes. If I had professional cic, then personally I would think twice.

I guess I'm not too bothered about any of them features expect for the faster user interface but I'm guessing that could be fixed doing the SSD upgrade on my current CIC

This is my old e92 with NBT:

SSD and combox is best solution for e9x in my opinion. You could always add snap-in media adapter for iphone to play video from phone

Why do you say that? I have a CIC with combox and SSD and it doesnt look as good as your NBT setup.

Does NBT have disadvantages other than cost?

Put it this way.

CIC = Windows 95
NBT EVO ID5 or ID 6 (Latest NBT) : Windows 10

Retrofitting the NBT price really depends on what car you have.
If you have a LCI F series, it will be cheaper.

If you have a E series with CIC from factory, it will be more expensive compared to a F series, but not too bad since you have CIC already. So you can reuse 100% of the trims without having to buy any new ones, and basically you only need to buy the actual NBT kit plus emulator.

Here is some NBT EVO ID 6 I retrofitted recently, comes with CARPLAY/Android Phone mirroring built-in as standard.

In that case SSD and combox will served you right.

You can do it yourself
If this is for your CIC, just your Dr. Gini tool for example
