recommendation on scanner / fault code reader

I need a scanner that can read and erase fault codes across engine, airbags and ABS on E90/E46/E39.

My current scanner is a basic Sealey unit that only reads engine codes.

What ones have you tried / recommend?

Hi

I have a C110 BMW (and new Mini) Scanner which is made by Creator. It comes with the round and rectangular OBC interface and it reads the codes on my E30 M3 and did so on my E36, E85 and E39. I have used it on my E91 335i MSport and it works a treat and it can be used as a reset tool. I bought it on Ebay and it was about £40. It comes with the cables, a disc to load software, instruction (not too good) and a nice zip up pouch. Works fine for me and only £40!

Hope that's helpful

I'm using the Schwaben Scan Tool from ECS.

At $200, it paid for itself in the first three weeks I had it by resetting airbag lights and coding injectors.

I'm pretty sure it does ABS but not sure about air bag. I'll plug it in tomorrow and see. Let you know....

Well it reads quite a lot under three categories (Driver, Chassis and Body) but nowhere within the many subsets of those categories did I find ABS or Airbag. its scans the engine codes, gearbox, DSC, wheel sensors etc. For £40 it does quite a lot..

I use Carley with their app.

I'll use it later and post a screen shot of what it displays!

I'm using iOS. My understanding is that for iOS you need a wifi one and for Android you need a Bluetooth one. I have this one (http://ebay.eu/2bChgYe) but be aware, if you want to use some of the more advanced features of Carly you need to buy their adapter which is quite pricey in comparison. It looks exactly the same as some of the other cheap ones on eBay/Amazon but it's not. I know this because I've bought the another cheap one which looked identical and had what appeared to be exactly the same spec as the official Carly one but it didn't work with the more advanced features. The cheap adapters still work fine for fault code reading/clearing and most of the coding options. Just can't mess with some of the security and safety parts of the ECU (I'm not sure why you'd want/need to anyway).

Bought a generic BMW Dcan USB cable off eBay for ~£15
Software was free download off the internet (INPA, DIS and NCSexpert)

Used it to clear fault codes and program injectors etc.

For engine codes I use MHD app and the same cable.
