In the Market..
So I've been tossing around the idea of getting rid of my TDI (vw would be buying back) and getting into a 2011 335d. I've done a bit of research and talked to a few people who say they are really great cars/motors. The dpf and egr don't bother me because I would delete and tune it right away anyways. The only concern I have is with the threads I've come across with all the CBU issues/expensive cleanings, the awkward shifting trans and what seems to be quite a bit of injector failures/replacements. Is this a common issue? Are there any other specific things I should look out for when shopping around?
thanks in advance! Last edited by mitwehrli; 10-18-2016 at 01:08 PM.. |

I heard that last months of 2011 has updated DDE software that prevents CBU... I checked mine and it is clean... So probably it is true...

I'm a TDI convert as well...welcome. The 335D makes the little 2.0 CR seem like a underpowered 4cyl gasser. And my jetta has a malone stg 2 tune...still worlds apart.
Jetta is sitting in my yard waiting for buyback...glad Judge decided not to rule on final approval today ![]() |

My jetta is also deleted and malone stage 2. From what I've heard, these 335d's have A LOT more power. Really interested in finding the one I want! Just want to make sure theres nothing I won't miss when looking one over.

Common problems on these cars include and you'll find solutions with a search; 1 vibration damper failures 2 carbon build up 3 vacuum line failures 4 red boost hose failure 5 scr tank failures 6 loss of low end boost 7 glow plugs and glow plug module 8 injector failures generally related to cbu 9 oil leaks on turbo lines 10 maf failures 11 o2, nox, pressure sensor failures 12 adaptation problems with injectors 13 turbo change over valve failures (part of the loss of,low end boost suite of problems) Plus the other e90 general problems. But the car does not have cooling system issues or hpfp failures, or at least they are very rare. I would recommend an abc delete if you want to keep the car fairly trouble free and prevent cbu. I have, given I had cbu cleaning at 21k miles, and every piece of my emissions system replaced multiple times and most vacuum hoses. There is only 1 company that offers a tune for the car to do deletes, I'd recommend doing it sooner rather than later in case their forced to stop selling deletes as well. |

Yeah, in general, an abc delete takes care of most of the expensive trouble areas on the car. The sensor failures 11 Aren't entirely eliminated with an abc delete. Though you could, but most people leave o2, maf, etc intact to optimize fuel efficiency. Oh another I see frequently engine mounts. But basically, it's stuff you'd expect to see on an aging car as miles pile up. Overall with the exception of emissions the d is pretty solid. The gas cars have a lot of coolant system failures, vanos problems, an seem prone to ac and alternator failures. The d is ismmune except for ac problems. But ac is common on any older car, most typical is the evaporator rots out. |

No timing change services that I've seen even on 200k cars. I'd recommend trans oil service every 50-60k. But some folks will, differ. I'm doing an oil change this weeekend on my X5 and the d there after

I came from a stage 2 TDI as well and it doesn't come close to comparing to my 335, I don't know why I didn't go this route in the first place. Cant wait to get my delete done! |
