Replacement intervals for air filter

I have 42000 kms...and the dealer stated that the air filter is not due to be replaced for a while....
Does anyone know when it's replacement is recommended
It's hard to believe that the cabin air filter was replaced before the engine air filter.
Does the charcoal filter have anything to do with the longer replacement intervals?
