Little to no throttle response 2011 335i N55 6MT
Earlier today I was leaving work and the throttle response to my car was almost non-existent. I could completely floor the pedal and it would only accelerate to about 5mph. No lights were on at all. When I pulled the car over, I put it into reverse just to see if it was a problem there too and it reversed just fine with no throttle problems. I turned the car off, then back on again and it seems to run fine now. Anyone know what could have caused this? The car is completely stock and I have been having some idle issues (bouncing and idling a bit high at start up for about a minute then it evens out every single time I start it up with the engine warm or cold). Does it sound like it could be my HPFP on its way out?
I won't be able to get codes pulled until tomorrow morning but was just hoping for some insight. |

I had something similar within the first year of having mine. Was actually a MAF Sensor. Without the sensor you essentially get a 3.0L Straight 6.... Which after getting used to our car with a turbo it does feel like it wont move.

The weird part was, after I turned the car off and then back on again, it was fine. Like nothing happened. How much did a new MAF cost you?

If you believe it is the MAF try cleaning it first with; http://www.amazon.com/CRC-05110-Mass.../dp/B000J19XSA

I don't believe my issue is a water pump, because I had a water pump fail on both my 330xi (55k) and my old 08' 335xi (60k) and never had anything to do with my throttle issue I am having now. Only when it went in to limp mode is when there was little to no throttle response. But I could be wrong lol I only have 34k on my current 335.

Not sure if it's related or not. My WP went out at 43k miles.

Hopefully it's not. But you never know these days lol I'm going to clean the MAF cause I see that could possibly be a issue, then go from there. I've done a lot of research the last few days and can't seem to find a solid answer.

You said it happened when you left work so the engine was cold. That's not going to be the water pump then. The reason power is cut when the pump dies is because the engine is overheating so the car forces you to stop. It's not the Vanos bolts from the recall either because once they shear off, restarting the car won't fix it. It's very strange that you didn't get an engine light from this.
