So I turned on my PBX back on to Map 3 before going on a road trip and once I was cruising at highway speeds, my engine quickly freaked out and timing went full retard. No lights though. Pulled into a gas station and the idle was really rough(felt like a cam loping) and revs were really slow so I don't know which sensor freaked out. Turned the car off, put the map back to 0 and turned the car back on and the car was fine the rest of the weekend for the long drives.
Looks like I'm going to uninstall this and sell it if I can. Will have to see what shadow code was thrown.

If you wanted something similar to this from a tune, there's a TPS/V parameter - just adjust the slope until you get the non-linear response you're after (not sure why this is good, but if you like it - good enough).
the default value is 21% per volt - so 100% is 4.76v. If you made it 25%/v it would be 100% at 4v, etc. That's basically what the PBX is doing. I don't think any tuners are doing this because it's not necessary though. |

no, the stock ignition timing is not aggressive at all. It will run perfectly fine on 87 octane for example - even though it says on the fuel door premium only (and the euro factory maps aren't really any different). There is quite a bit of midrange to be gained with ignition timing. Plus the knock sensors are too sensitive, and pull timing early (probably why it runs fine on 87 octane).
There's basically zero gains from a richer mixture anyway. The 330i's fuel curve is just about right from the factory - at the dyno as soon as I added fuel, I LOST power (I'm not talking very much - I tried from 13.5:1 to 13.3:1). Plus, it can't account for the different fuel curves of the 325i, 330i, and 328i, which are all vastly different - the 325i/328i start out really lean and then go pig rich, the 330i is flat ~13.5:1 - and then you add the cat overheat protection at the end of the curve, power just drops off. It's a bandaid solution and a sucky one too. The PBX is basically a waste of time. |

Great discussion and investigation regarding the "performance increase." Is this worth it for throttle response? If not, what's a good solution to remove throttle lag on a 6spd N51?
