BPC dissects the N52 and N54 block - Comparison inside!

We thought we would start a new thread on this topic, since its one of the most sought after topics. "Whats the difference between the blocks on the N52, and N54?" We hear it all of the time. We even have customers that call up and ask if we can compare the head gaskets, the heads, the bolts, rods, and more. We figured we would dedicate an entire few days to taking apart these two motors down to bare block and doing an in depth video blog.

Check it out and stay tuned for the next one!

Just out of curiosity while u had a N51 in the video,

is it possible to retrofit piston and head from N52 on to N51 to get that extra compression?

Great job! Thank you BPC for giving the skinny on the two engines. Strong or light, pick your poison.

The head is the same. Swapping pistons for half a point CR increase would be insanely expensive - it would be easier to just swap the whole motor.

Does the N54 forged stroker crank fits in the N52 block?

PD: If so, either rod length or piston wrist pin height will need changes...

Why bother with the N54 crank and the need for custom pistons and only gain 54cc, 2996cc to 3050cc.

I don't want to put a N52 head on a N54 block, I want to put a N54 block under my N52 head. Ha.

Awesome work John. I had already come to the same conclusion. Do you know who I go to for a custom head gasket?

Now If I could just convince you guys to compare head chamber volume (cc) and confirm that both heads use the same valve angle we would all be set. Once these items are confirmed we can take N54 forged pistons and fly-cut the valve reliefs and then we have an N54/52 beast with A BPC TURBO!
