SSTT & Oil Temperature
My 335i seems to run 'warm' with oil temps between 230 - 250 with the outside temps at about 30 degrees. These oil temps are reached when I drive spirited.
Do I have to worry about excessive oil temps if I decide to buy and install SSTT? Are my my current temps normal for winter? Thanks! |

As far as I can tell, the SSTT has no effect on oil temperatures whatsoever. My car runs exactly the same with it in or out. Don't sweat it.

My car, bone stock, runs in the 290-300's when pushed. Want to SSTT it but the high temps concern me. On the other side the HP I need. The Dinan Oil Cooler is out of the budget for now. Thanks guys for any suggestions.

Again, the SSTT should not have any effect on oil temperatures. The ONLY possibility (and I am highly skeptical about this) is if you consistently run at WOT over 6,000 RPM for extended periods of time. Then I could see the added boost and lean mixture making things toasty. However, I ran my car on a track for 20 minutes at a time with the SSTT in and never had an oil temp problem. I honestly wouldn't worry about the SSTT impacting your oil temp.

I do not have the SSTT but did 6 laps on a short track and it went into Limp Mode, but thanks a lot for your tip! Looking forward into modding the car!

On '07 E90, AT, with retrofitted oil cooler, I run 240-245 routinely. On my first brief romp with SSTT, today, I quickly went up to 250 (haven't hit that temp since before the retrofit). I think it would have gone higher w/ more romp time, but don't know for sure. Makes sense, higher boost, higher temps. I hit 280 just sitting in traffic before retrofit, so 250 with the SSTT seems relatively cool.
