Thumbs up E92 330D Pics: rear shocks, swirl flaps, glow plugs, seals etc

Hi all,

Tying up with a couple of threads I posted here recently, I finally got some repairs carried out by Will and the team at TWG Automotive.

Rear shocks were completely gone and I noticed an oil leak on the right hand side of the engine http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1235484 so as a precaution had the swirl flaps removed and glow plugs & relay changed at the same time.

Will kindly agreed to keep the old parts for me so I could post them on here afterwards. Thought someone might find them useful!

Just out of interest what was the mileage your rear shocks were shot !

My e91 335d has had everything else done you have ! Also the breather and vac hoses mines a 56 plate and was on 70k when it was all done last year !Not a lot a miles really for glow plugs / control unit to fail!

Hi Alex... I think when I bought the car there was an advisory on the MOT about oil misting on the shocks so had started to go for a while. Mileage was 165,000 or so when I got them replaced.

I actually don't know if the plugs or controller had gone but I got them done anyway as the labour to take it all apart to install the swirl flap blanks is pretty high and gives u access to the plugs etc. got it done anyway given the milage etc so I wouldn't have to pay through the nose further down the line.

is it still on its original vac hoses? It's impressive if it's the first set of glow plugs ! The swirls did not look that bad considering the mileage ! Biggest preventative maintence for these cars!

I think the vac hoses were also replaced preventatively as they'd started to deteriorate. I was also surprised at the condition of the swirl flaps! I did notice a huge change in the car afterwards, it's much much more responsive now and even more fun to drive.

How does the car feel with the new shocks, noticeable improvement?

Yes there was a huge improvement - but the overall feel of the suspension is still stiff as hell. The BOGE shocks are fairly standard from what I can tell so I didn't feel any change in handling etc.

Sadly I now have to replace the fronts, likely to be BOGE's as well.

I'm guessing the the rear was originally riding on the springs as the shocks were totally gone.

The Boge/Sachs shock is the same as the OEM part. Do you recall on what part numbers you used? I presumed you used the equivalent M sport ones?

I am changing my front's to Boge/Sachs next week as one is leaking. Hopefully there will be a good improvement. If so, I might do the rears too.

I'm not sure Tbh as my indy sorted it. GSF and ECP are really confusing when it comes to ordering the shocks on my car. The front are a nightmare so again I've left my indy to sort it

Sorry I can't help with that! If my car was really new I'd have loved to buy the bilstein air suspension kit

I agree it's very confusing. This is why a spoke to Sachs direct and used there online catalog to find the correct the part number.

I prefer to do this than let an Indy for piece of mind.
