I had some exhaust smell coming in through the vents so I popped the hooded to have a look around the engine.

While looking around I noticed that the smell was very intense around the turbos so I has a closer look with a flashlight and I noticed a lot of oil was leaking out around the turbo.

I took it to the shop and they replaced the turbos.

Now I am starting to smell some exhaust from time to time and I hear a lot of ticking noises around the turbo and the exhaust.

BTW I have a 335d.

looks like the 335d has some issues with the big turbo which is not used most of the time and cant release pressure. there was a thread about it here, search for it. looks like a design flaw

No the ticking cannot be heard on idle, it can only be heard when the revs are falling after revving the engine!

They dont know and wont know i have an LSD, its impossible to tell as its a modded BMW diff u get!

Do you guys really think i should take procede out before it goes back to get the parts they ordered fitted?

YES.
well actually if they didn't notice or find anything during your first trip, i doubt they would look for anything if you're getting stuff installed.

From a UK point of view YES. They have a habit now of always flashing cars that come into the dealership. I don't know what would happen if they spotted the V2 on there at the same time.

Since it controls boost it isn't a huge leap for them to simply blame the fault on the V2 and deny warranty. Always best to take it out when you got to the dealers...

If you remember to tape up and label the procede wires it only takes 30 mins to fit it back

I was redirected to this thread from another. The ticking I am getting on mine sounds like it is coming primarilly from the driver side and more pronounced before the engine reaches operating temperature. For example, I drive about 15 kilometers to work, I hear it when I am pulling out of my parking garage and I still hear it when I get to the gate at work. After the temp registers however, the tick either goes away or at least is much less pronounced. Could this have something to do with the erratic idle I have on initial start-up? When the engine is cold, the car idles at about 1000-1200 RMP's but it drops by 200-300 rpm's for about 1/2 secnd and then bounces back up to normal. It continues to do this until the choke, or whatever the modern equivalent is, cuts out... The car is in Spain so I would hate to take it to the shop... Thanks

Here in greece we have the same problem with one car that has 33000km.
The noise comes when you release the gas pedal and the revs are going
down. The dealer said there is no actuator as a part.We need Turbo replacement. We wait and see what happens.

Same thing happened to my car bro. I got it used with 18K miles last week and they said they would fix it. The sound comes when I let off the throttle and the RPMs are dropping. Took it in for service this morning. Just got a call from my service adviser saying my waste gate actuator is making the sound. He said they're waiting for advice from BMW. Might change the turbos. No wonder the turbos lagged so much I remember driving my friends car and not feeling that much turbo lag.

BTW if i get new turbos, do I have to break it in or is it safe to gun it?

You know, I thought I had felt more power when I first took delivery of the car. I thought maybe it was just my imagination with the power loss though. I am traveling two or more weeks each month and don't get to drive the car that often so I chalked it up to me being paraniod. Could it be something with the fuel? I had been putting the recommended octane at the beginning and then, because a friend told me the octane ratings are different in either Europe or just in Spain, I started going with 98. I just hope nothing happens before I can get to the US with it. The dealership in Spain actually lost my car for two weeks prior to delivery. I would hate to see what would happen if they had to open the hood. Please let me know if you hear anything new on this...
