Hi all,

deleted my 35D about 2 months back. JR tune and an unobtainium downpipe. I have NOT deleted the cat yet.

I've been having a periodic exhaust leak that is really obnoxious in cab, usually happens at a stop light, mostly goes away when I put the recirculation on (but obnoxious when I need to put the defrost on and it won't recirc)

I noticed on initial install that the EGT bung in this downpipe does not have the proper angle seat that the probe requires. After first noticing this issue I pulled the egt probe and could clearly see exhaust gasses escaping past the threads, and the only part sealing on the probe was about 25% of the entire contact area (not evenly distributed). I made a small gasket for the probe with die punches and had no leaks for about a day... then it came back. now about every few days I can put another ~1/2 turn on the 14mm nut for the probe, and seem to make the leak seal better for a day or so... then it heat cycles, and its bad again. I imagine the tubing for the downpipe is work hardening with heat cycles and not compressing the seal any more.

Not meaning to badmouth anyone but for 9004 the unobtainium piece should have the proper angle seat for the probe. I recommended this to the owner of the shop this and he seemed responsive, but i've got no fix for mine.

I've checked every other seal. the only other thing I can think of is to replace the V band seal on the turbo, or try and seal my cabin air filter better, but clearly that's not going to filter exhaust gasses. Ive reset the v band seal and have the clamp cranked almost to coil bind.

any help? has anyone else had an issue like this?

If you installed the unobtanium downpipe, you removed the DPF and the DOC that's built in to it. That DOC is your "cat". The SCR does nothing to remove the smell and not deleting that will result in a backed up exhaust in a few thousand miles. You may want to consider getting that deleted or hollowed out ASAP. Too much back pressure is not healthy for the turbos.

Yeah and having the deletes, it's going to smell bad. Some tail wind and that smell will creep into the cabin.
I don't think the sensor bung is leaking enough exhaust to make it reek.

Installing a diesel cat helps reduce the smell and smoke but it'll be nothing like what the DPF/DOC was able to do.

Sorry to say if you can't get used to the smell, you may have to put your DPF back in.
JR has a tune that keeps the DPF active but deletes everything else.

Delete the SCR ASAP, worst mistake of my life not deleting it quick enough. Car will breath much better plus no forceful leaks will happen. My downpipe
Started leaking in the flexpipe because of the pressure

Yes, do this. I managed to get 8,000 miles on mine but when I removed it it was pretty blocked.

Same goes for me when I gutted SCR hands and the actual cat was full of black soot
