DEF Tank Removal Question
Any idea if I have to undo bolts from inside the trunk to drop the DEF tanks?
I have a sub and two amps all wired inside the trunk, would be a major pain to get at the top of any bolts holding the DEF tanks up.

Well, it looks like most of the critical components are located on the top of the active tank, so I should be able to remove the active tank and purge the passive tank in place. That is a relief, didnt want to have to remove the passive tank after looking at it.
FYI This is what I am working off of:

Quasi, Here is a post I loaded last year with top plate removed. It didn't look like a big deal to remove passive thank as well. Why are you concerned of passive tank removal again.
http://www.e90post.com/forums/showpo...63&postcount=6 EDIT: I see, you don't want the hassle of messing with amps and sub woofer. That black plate is held to the passive tank by two long threaded rods. The threaded rods are built into black plate. You should be able to undo the nuts from the bottom and then drop tank from that side WITHOUT removing the black plate. Look at the pictures in my thread. That said, I removed those and the passive tank was still supported else where. I need to go look at realOEM again for those other supports of the passive tank. Please update us via this thread. To be fair, I would consider the one time removal/reinstall of your audio stuff to get full access to all of the connectors and DEF fluid tubing. I plan to pull out the black plate again when i remove all of the DEF system. My motive is beyond most here of just wanting to remove the potentially leaking tank. I have a problem with fluid not being transferred from the passive tanks to the active tank, so suspect numero uno is that pump on the active tank. EDIT: OMG, I didnt know you could remove the plate in the trunk and access the DEF system. Okay, so I removed the plate, just a couple of notes: 1. the large hat nuts are 17mm not 21mm, 2. I felt the tank was coming with the nuts so I put a strap on it to hold it up (see pics), 3. thanks for the tip about the screw in the front passenger side corner, that saved me breaking the plastic tray which appears to hold something like a battery wire.

So the delivery module appears to be covered with some ancient white pottery. I have chipped most of it away, looking for inscriptions, but havent found anything. I am thinking ancient Mycenaean or Philistine. If I can find some Philistine inscriptions it will be a coup!!

I love the reference to the "Mycenaean or Philistine's"...
If you didn't use the straps, would the tank have fallen down? I'm asking because I would like to take the cover off mine and check on my tank. The dealer just put a new on in there and they claim it was redesigned and I want to look at it. |

No. I just did it. Lower the exhaust from its mounts, drop the heat shields but leave them on top of the mufflers, reach up between mufflers and DEF tank to remove the two nuts that hold the tank to the trunk floor plate. Tank drops a couple inches but is held by other mounts.
