Coding shifting paddles E90 automatic

Hi everyone,

I would like to code the shifting paddles for my friend his car.

This is a E90 with normal automatic.

I did find some topics about this but never the right coding reference.

Some mentiones $2XA but can't seem to find more info about it.

Should adding $2XA and blank code the EGS module do the trick?

Thanks and a happy new year for everyone.

I know expert mode is the "proper" way to do it, but what's wrong with blank coding? Accomplishes the exact same thing and easier to explain to people.

Why do you need to code to have the paddles work?

Retrofitted shift paddles on my 09' that didn't come with paddles from factory years ago - didn't need any coding just wheel/paddles/wiring harness

Agreed. If the wiring is already set up in your model & all you have to do is code, by all means go for it.

I completed my retrofit & added a twist to it. I rewired the 335I paddles DCT style(left pull/downshift, right pull/upshift) & wired the "push" function of the paddle to activate Sport(DS) mode.

I think using a blank manipulation file does not reference the VO/FA string when coding

I may look into the coding aspect of the paddles this weekend.

The diagram is steering wheel>junction box>transmission. The 2 yellow wires people pull from the back of the clock spring do indeed go to the junction box to the correct pins the diagram shows for paddle inputs.

I checked on my car(06 325I which never even had paddles as a purchase option) & the wiring for the outputs from the clock spring to Junction box to transmission are there.

I'm going to disconnect my paddle harness & connect the 2 yellow wires back up. There may be some additional coding to be done in the JBBF or some nettodat settings to play with.

Either that or the paddle option may have to be manually added to the Daten file similar to DVD in motion & digital speedo on e65's.

I've completed my retrofit & like it much better than the standard paddles, but for people who want to retrofit in the future, maybe there is a simpler solution if those 2 yellow wires are present in the clock spring already.

i did not code mine. there is a diy if you search. i pinned out wires behind the air bag and spliced wires at the shifter and they work great.

I didn't code mine either. But if it is possible to achieve by just purchasing the steering wheel & playing with some coding, it would be ideal for those doing this in the future.
