Koni Yellow & H&R Sport Springs
I had Koni Yellow & H&R Sport Springs installed yesterday on my E90 and for some reason I am not liking the ride, it feels very floaty and all over the place. Not as planted as my OEM Sport suspension. My question is
1. Do I need to get an alignment? 2. I was told the suspension is set to the 2nd to last stiff setting, should I let it settle a week and see if that makes a difference? (Bought used with about 4k miles on them) Also steering feels a little more loose than before but that could just be in my head. Thanks in advance with any insight! Rik |

You definetly need to do an alignment after swapping out struts/springs. The new suspension needs alittle time to break in as well. so maybe drive it a few days and get the alignment.
also make sure that the adjustment knobs where you want them. If the stock bump stops were reused you will eventually have prorblems. Did you replace the front upper strut mounts? rear shock upper and lower mounts during the install? Worn strut mounts will give a floaty feeling, and so will old upper rear shock mounts. they get brittle and soft. so theyre able to flex a lot instead of holding it solid. |

I would change the strut mounts, spring rubber coil perches and bump stops to e36 m3 front bump stops and z4 M rear bump stops. OR cut the bump stops around 1 inch for both the front and rear. That way you can maintain OEMish suspension travel which maintains good dampening force of the shock under compression and rebound. Trust me, I did stock bump stops on Koni Yellows and Eibach Pro kit and it was a jarring ride and I thought I had either blown shocks or some other suspension component failure like control arms, sway bar end links, tie rods etc. I found out in the end my suspension travel was quite limited so I cut my bump stops 1 inch front and rear and the ride quality is very noticeably better, still firmer than OEM but much more compliant over bumps and imperfections and soaks it up at high speed much more nicely than OEM suspension.

I had the same issue. I made the koni half way firm, full firm and full soft and nothing seemed to help. I really think it comes down to the subframe bushing. Once there is less movement in the rear should allow the suspension to work as it should.
Get an alignment as well |

Does yours sound like your tires hit or some kind of sound when you hit a bump?

I too suffer from floatiness when driving. It seems like the car wondering a lot above 80 mph. Once I get the bushings installed I am setting the Koni's to 2/3's full stiff and then get my wheels road force balanced. Hopefully that alleviates all the floatiness and vagueness of the car because honestly its not fun to drive right now. |
